Exhaust relocation

Manifold that directs the exhaust through the bonnet of my deutz dx and the price to replace was silly. Decided to take the opportunity to move it to the pillar.

Hasn’t taken to long to do. Made my own pillar silencer with a slight pedantic deutz cab shape. all parts made, mocking up location now.

Need to add wadding to deaden the east from the engine vdrill the pillar and weld a nut in to mount the silencer to the pillar. Once all mocked up, it’ll get blasted and powder coated matte black.

Will photo the exhaust over the engine and down to the flex pipe tomorrow. Such an improvement. Long overdue.

Looking good, not sure about the powder coating thought. think it will melt. vitreous enamel would be the dogs, but probably to expensive.

Powder is good once cured to 200 degrees. Not totally sure what temp the exhaust gets to. Will look up the enamel though. See if it’s possible to buy it in small quantity.

Forgot to say, it’s only the silencer I’m having painted. Which is full of wadding so shouldn’t get to hot but will find out I’m sure. [emoji15]

Just had it running on the topper for an hour. Silencer hit 70 degree C. I’m only powder coating the silencer. Will blast and stove paint the rest. Sounds a lot quieter with it in the pillar. And the front window still opens. Had a bit of jogging around to get it positioned correctly.

How about a tin of black Hammerite that would do it

I have a blasting and power coat set up on site, they can get enamel from their supplier, not a fan of any thing hammerite. I’m pedantic when it comes to the correct finish on things. [emoji847]

The 4” erw outer I had in the barn. The centre perforated tube from eBay as was easiest place. Wadding was from local exhaust place. Cheaper than online. The pipe over the bonnet was from scrap yard and laser cut the 20mm plate to bolt to the manifold. I was going to buy all the bus new in stainless but thought it was a bit OTT. Even in stainless it was coming in less than the broken cast exhaust mount alone. If you need any guidance just shout. Mount the silencer where you want it first. Then the exhaust over the engine. I learnt the hard way. ‍♂️

Did you use stainless perforated, can I weld it with normal mig wire?
