I think we will see hand sanitiser at all public buildings.
I hope travel in an out of this country is subjected to higher scrutiny.
Perhaps before folk leave or enter. theyve to be tested for covid.

After CV19 - what’s the exit plan to return to normality??
Legal requirement for automatic doors in all public places.

Labour bitching about how awful the Government is while not having stated what the 'perfect' course of action should be when it mattered, and doing so from the very comfortable position of not being in power. My mistake, that's already started. :banghead:

To quote the BBC news this morning, the newly elected Labour leader, Keir Starmer, has "called for a "national vaccine programme" against the virus. Suppose he must have been living in a cave the past couple of weeks and doesn't know that a vaccine hasn't been invented yet. I do hope that those trying to score political points in the middle of such a tragedy are remembered once the dust has settled. I never thought I would write this on a public forum, but fair play to Nicola Sturgeon who has steered well clear of politics these past few weeks and has worked well with Boris for the good of the country. As for those who have ignored advice in the name of profit, I hope they are remembered too I certainly won't be back in Wetherspoons.

Long term, I don't forsee any sort of restriction on travel or airlines. I think we've already seen that the profit of airlines was put before public health in the early stages of the virus. I think we'll see an end to paid-for public toilets and a requirement on all public spaces to have free access to handwashing facilities. I think we'll see a commitment to increase the number of intensive care beds across the country, especially since our ratio of intensive care beds to population has come out as very poor compared to Germany for instance. I think work will take place behind the scenes on improving general resilience, for instance, a record of all retired doctors and nurses being kept in much the same way as former military personal are recorded, probably an increase in PPE stocks and perhaps a few sites permanently listed as emergency hospital/morgue/distribution centres.

Socially, I think a lot of organisation will be looking at savings to be made from working from home. I know that the university where I am employed has finished its teaching through video lectures and online exams. You can rest assured the powers-that-be will be looking at how much marking time and lecturing time that has saved at £18+/hour. Likewise, our department will be looking at how many desks are now empty, desks that have to be rented from the university centrally at a cost of £3000/year. I for one am saving a fortune commuting to sit at a desk and use a computer that's not even as good as the one I sit at at home. I think a lot of other employees will be thinking the same thing.

Economically, too soon to tell. I think a few big infrastructure projects might be in for a rough ride, a la HS2, Trident Replacement, Scotland-NI Bridge. I would like to think all three of those should go ahead though. It might be a case of spending our way out of recession to create jobs and tax revenue. Look at how the massive government spending programme of the 1930s pulled the USA out of the great depression.
