My feed costs are less than 12 months ago and my straw cost is the same so I can only speak as I find. It is up to the individual how they cost their home grown produce either at cost of production or at opportunity cost

Why don't you just keep them and finish them yourself? With this cheap straw and grain you have plus the big fat price you'll make a fortune!

Im afraid you clearly live in a little bubble because everyone else are saying feed and bedding costs are rising.

Inputs like fuel/ machinery/ parts etc etc are higher than 12 months ago so your feed costs are NOT the same in real terms as 12 months ago!
You are right in saying they are not the same in real terms as they are lower, why do you find this hard to accept,I try very hard to keep my costs down and this year I have managed to buy well and am able to go into the winter with my cost of production under control.

Well you will be just about the only beef farmer in 2017 with lower costs!

My finishing ration is up £25/t or nearly £40/head. Straw cost up£10/head. Diesel is near 10p/litre more. Something will have to give because at the rate people are selling cows and increasing ewes both jobs will be fudgeed very soon.

Will be nigh on 20+ pence a kilo if you work it out ( including things like machinery prices etc ) which in real terms puts the fhinshed price the same or lower than 12 months ago.

Store lambs were easier today....good lambs in the early 50’s what use is lambs at £50
I even saw a guy sell some Hibernians for £3 each! Bloody hell the commission is £3 a lamb! He’s worked all year for fanny Adams

I recall as a kid ( before you were born @Northeastfarmer :ROFLMAO: ) selling store lambs in Oct for £50 + and that £50 back then would go a hell of a lot further than £50 today!

Can you explain how much feeding margin is left on 300+ kg calves bought at well in excess of £3 /kg as I've always wondered how it's done ?
