Export electricity price

Unless massive installations- selling or export electric is waste of time as only pence ?
Why can't we sell to public direct at a reduced retail but better than 3-5p export rates to the big 5 ?
How are you going to supply it, you need a network, and it is that which costs.
The price we recieve is about the same as the big generators get for wholesale supply. It is the distribution and metering which costs.

Thankfully we didn't make the investment, we inherited the panels and contract when we bought the house. I have no experience of PV so am a complete novice, but I get the sense that our domestic supply should automatically use power from the PV when the sun's shining then use the grid to top up at other times. If that's the case we are automatically getting some of our power for free and the high cost of the remaining demand is something we'll have to live with.

Thanks for the replies.
You will gain from free electricity while it is being produced, export only occurs when you are using less than the panels produce.
The inverters work by converting the panel production to a slightly higher voltage than the mains network, which forces the current away. Using the current in the house will reduce this voltage until eventually power will be pulled in.
Your problem is that you are producing power when you are not using it, ie summer lunchtimes.
There is equipment available which will use surplus power to heat water etc.
Google immersun but there are other makes as well.
You do realise you are not tied to the same company to supply power and provide FITs and exports.
You can change these at any times.
You may also be unaware that the fit payment already will contain an element of export in it as well since you will be credited with only using 50% of power produced.
Actuallly I doubt most houses use 20%

But how much does it cost though ?? I generate around 4000 MWhrs of Electricity a year. I would like to know how much it would cost to be able to use the distribution network to supply that energy directly to homes and businesses in the local area.?

At the moment I don't think it is allowed but if it was I think it would really shake up the electricity supply industry for the better

The network charges upon the need for power in that area. So when things are busy and they are short of power, you may actually get paid, up to 2.5 p for actually using the network!
This only is at peak demand so 5-7 in the evening, as you can guess not many PV generators do well out of this and it would only be where supplies are tight.
At other times of the day , they may charge up to 8.5 p to take the power away!
I have actually looked into this as I have an array next door to to a large consumer.
These charges are very much dependent on local demand

If it can be done, and combined with Battery Storage it may enable us small producers to be able to compete without Fits in the future

Something has to happen in order to allow renewables to be competitive without subsidies

My price off lime jump for variable rate has been 6.9ppkw for dec and 6.5ppkw for nov and oct, seem a good company to deal with, this is for chp so might be a bit better than solar?
i called limejmp the other day - they are cowboys - they tried selling me this varible tariff + accordin to dunn and bradstreet they are not doing well as a company

good energy have been trialling peer to peer power purchase agreements , in the future there could be lower transmission costs for power consumed near where its produced

I haven't used them but believe other users have. They were members a while back. I have stuck with Opus as the DC/DA costs close the gap to within the hassle factor. I didn't like the way Good structured their quote (depending on x, y, z...) the last time I was looking so didn't enquire this time but that may have changed.

Any one signing Wind PPAs at the moment Prices seem flat 4.3p to 4.7p excluding TRIAD. The PPAs I have been offered at the moment are grossly over exaggerating the likely TRIAD benefit its not often its the coldest days of winter and wind turbines are generating anything like full power

Have tried Good Energy, Opus and F&S Thinking of sticking with Export Rate at the moment

If we get the triad payment when do you receive it?
