Exporting power - who to use and how much

For a number of reason our 50kw PV has no export meter fitted, looking in to it again.

EON (current supplier for both import and FITS) has suggested I fil out this form https://www.eonenergy.com/content/dam/eon-energy-com/Files/solar/seg/SEG Application Form V5.pdf for their Smart Export Gurantee.

they seem to be offering 5.5p.

it makes sense to go with them but are they any pit falls, anyone else out there better? any costs associated with this?

Whilst the Smart Export Guarantee provides a valid option for generators whilst markets are low, more often than not better prices can be secured trading directly with suppliers on the wholesale energy market.

We work with 15+ energy suppliers, who purchase renewably generated energy directly from us. There are lots of factors that are considered when pricing export PPA's, however in the current market we're achieving between 6p/kWh and 6.8p/kWh.

With regards to your imported energy being with E-On, I think it is safe to say there would be savings to be made there also, due to the nature of their businesses "the big 6" have to hire large customer service teams to handle all corporate and domestic inbound phone calls, increasing their overheads that then have to be recouped via their unit rates. We work with specialist B2B energy suppliers that don't trade with customers directly, only through energy experts such as ourselves, that way if there's an issue the customer comes directly to us to resolve the problem for them, allowing them to reduce overheads and pass on the savings to our customers.

The cost of metering exports is between £250 and £375 a year. You can choose between which robbing b******s but you will need to be exporting at least 8,000 units to be worth it.
Remember a meter costs about £200 to buy and about 10 minutes to fix. Other meter readers charge £15-25 a year to read these meters remotely.
I reckon it is not really worth doing if you are not exporting 15,000 units a year
