I have heard from my agronomist today that someone not far from me PE9 postcode, has been harvesting extase with a yield of about 2 t/ha. Apparently KwS are looking into this. Has anyone else had any problems.?
I fear we may be the same with one field.Coming up from the River there are a number of dark erect heads, with shrivelled grain, and as you travel further away from the River it improves. We think it is frost damage as the area affected is where the frost is usually worse and being the variety is early the crop was susceptible to the April frosts.Your man is correct. And the yield figure is correct.
I am aware of three separate farms with disastrous Extase. One in PE10, one in PE12, and the other not sure but in Northants. The case in PE12 also has severe Ergot. Crops have just not set grain, many infertile sites and the grains are like mouse droppings.
Having seen what I have there is something odd about Extase. I gather now after some research there have been issues with infertility recorded in trial sites in the north of the UK.
We have a Moulin here (!) .

Don’t say that my firefly looks really good. This corroborates a conversation that I had with our Agronomist yesterday, sadly.
Said no rush to get Extase seed bought, there looks like plenty that will be coming unexpectedly available before October.
Anyone else finding another KWS white elephant, Firefly, to be fairly shite?
My extase never made it out of the ground. Disappointing at the time, but perhaps not, in light of this.
I think, looking at our crop, that it's important not to drill it too early. It was way ahead of other varieties when we had those frosts in April, early May.We have two fields of Extase here that look good . Both drilled later after beet and grass and only just fit .
