Extended DX tank

as title ,Has anyone ever tried to extend a DX tank vertically.
We currently have a 4400 l ice bank which also does the platecooler and a 8000 l DX which is our main tank ,both in a stone barn 6 metres sq. and i am looking to go EOD all year and get ARLA's bonus for flexible pickup times.
I have priced a new 17000 dx but it will not fit in the dairy unless we knock some holes through , and also a silo,
where to put it is another issue aside from the extra cost over a tank.
conclusion is that what we could do with is a tall tank with the footprint of a 8000l normal one. There was someone near Kirby Lonsdale used to extend those old ice banks which got me thinking.
any ideas , i can not be the only one with space issues . thanks

i envisage cutting it all the way around (as long as it above the dimples) about 3/4 the way up
putting greedy boards on at an angle , so the top can be put back on
lenghten the paddles
job done
ish

Find a local engineering firm who specialise in stainless work and get an idea on price as this might rule it out straight away or make u want to look deeper into the idea , and if they cannot do the job they may well point u in the direction of someone who can

Would you consider putting the new 17k tank outside? It's becoming more common to have them outside, all that's needed it a kit to cover the agitator motors.
space is a problem, we turn artics in front of the dairy , there is a 20 ft passage way to one side leading to the house / cake bin , could squeeze a silo on here but would mean altering blower pipe to 50 ft long side of barn
i was surprised how much extra a silo was over the tank 1/3 more, made the decision more complicated as you could do alot of building for it

I thought extended tanks were unacceptable to buyers these day
umm. good point
We had to get our tank repaired about 10 years ago for just such a crack. Its now about 25 yr old, and was the biggest available back then .( 13,000 lt , which was a 10 k one extended lengthwise to 13 k). Would hold days and days for us now!

How many cows were you milking back then? You must have been a big outfit producing 13,000 litres in the early 90's!
