Extension cable

Hi please can you tell me if you are using a extension cable for a short period of time and to power something like charging a phone should i fully unwind the cable ? thanks

no need to unwind cable for charging phone, welder 9 inch grinder etc then you need to fully unwind to prevent cable getting hot

My 50m cables say on them they will do 800w fully wound, and full 3200w when unwound completely.

We (unwittingly) had a bouncy castle blower (2 hp) plugged into an almost fully wound 30m extension for a day last summer.

It was slightly warm to the touch after 10 hours when i found it but not hot enough i bothered to unwind it for the remaining few hours it was needed.

I am using an extension cable about 20 feet long and 5mm thick. It is good to use for high devices like computers, theater system. It is also good for charging a cell phone. It is made of very good stuff and it should not get so warm. I can easily pick it in my hand even if it is in use.
