Eyes Lasered

Think that is the way forward but told a "set" lens is fitted then near or far is made up with glasses again.

As we say in the trade.... every case is unique! The lens replacement (cataracts mostly) is a fascinating procedure these days.
Basically cut a hole and liquidise the old one, suck it out, then inject a "folded" artificial one through the same hole, that then expands due to the extra fluid in the syringe module and hooks in to the tissue where the old one was. Takes about 10-15 minutes all in. The recovery from the sedative takes longer. (y)

When I was a butchery apprentice one of many "inductions" was inserting a pigs eye ball into the apprentices cuppa, they sink....... then when said apprentice screams/pukes etc everyone says....

"We`re keeping an eye on you....." :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Now I just make sure the lenses are fully traceable from manufacture till they walk out the door. And that we have enough of the right dioptre in stock.... :D:D

Just had cataract surgery. Was offered near or far but told that a varifocal was available.
Opted for far so as not to need glasses outside in bad weather. Just waiting while things settle to get a fresh prescription for glasses. Have had varifocals for the last 16 years so know all the vagaries and I am quite at home with them. Not sure about having them fixed in your eye though.
All good at present with things brought back to life in colour and relief unbelievably. The cataract in my left eye was periforal and was there for about 8 years. Toward the end sight in this eye changed dramatically over the last 8 to 10 weeks before surgery, to a level where I was not really fit to drive.
Surgeon did tell me that the odds on there being a problem were about 1 in a 1000. No option but to go for it really.
Many thanks to all in the eye department St James University Hospital Leeds.

Our secretary had it done about eight years ago at a big specsavers or boots in a precinct. One eye done and then on the other eye, the machine dropped an inch or so during the proceedure  with a bit of a bang.....(I would have been off by then!!!)
It went ok and for about six or seven years but lately she's been wearing reading glasses again. They won't laser her again.
I wear varifocal contact lenses which are pretty good and give me good vision both at reading distances and long distance. I don't wear them all the time but do if working outdoors in poor weather when glasses are a pain or for social events when it's just nicer to leave the specs at home
