Tested this eve at 23%!
Stupid to consider cutting?
Going into neighbours store, and his batch dryer. Haven't told him the moisture yet.
How long would they take to dry?
How long would they be ok with pedestals?

Amazed moisture is so high after 3 nice days. I'm sad

I gave up and didn’t test mine, still got 7 acre to do but seed dressers here tomorrow afternoon. Most of my harvest still needs to go over the dryer, only just got it working

beans are amazing things for drying....i used to grow a few tic beans for pigeon feed......keeping them over year they will keep drying to a nice deep brown colour.....though if wet they soon turn black

i think they might dry with the pedestals

We gave up with ours too combined them at around 23% and applied propcorn to them and we’ll mill them for feed in winter. We drilled it 2days after combining and the wheat is up in the rows

They are at the moment, as soon as I get a chance I’ll get them tested then decide on what to do with them. There was patches of thistles, so they were never going to be dry.

Don't envy you, but makes a nice change for us. Its usually us in that position struggling on to get beans cut while you southern boys have got harvest all done and dusted. We cut our beans earliest we ever have on 8th september and driest we ever have at between 15.5 and 16.5%. We usually leave them in a heap for a day or two to even up, then dry them in two goes through a batch dryer using as low an air temp as possible, leaving to stand a day between the two goes when drying from 20+%

Just got results back from testing them and 94% germination too, so all good for next years seed aswell.

I finally gave up waiting and cut them at 18.5-19% on 24/9. I’ve only got underfloor ambient air drying and all those floors have wheat on which isn’t moving anytime soon. So basically I’ve got to let the beans go into a store at a drying charge of circa £17/t and a weight loss!!!
Trouble is I need them gone as I’m hoping fertiliser will turn up at some point and I can’t afford to turn that away. The main positive is that I drilled wheat the day after they were combined.

We had planned to cut moist and popcorn straight away this year. Managed to get them dry and some unsprayed for seed as well. We'll have to plan to do the same next year...

For goodness sake keep a keen eye on them because they can soon get hot and stink, worse if there is redshank seed, etc, in them.

Keep them moving. Cleavers etc and you'll have nice hot mouldy lumps pronto.

stopped growing beans a few years ago , the only reason being that the elevator to the dryer wouldnt take them, if we had a tub dryer thered be in the rotation!

Keep an eye on them in the store!!

Cut them and maybe offer to local dairy farm, rolled they will go in a cow diet very nicely. Beans are loaded with starch and protein and they are a good cow feed.

Nop, I cannot get them to feed. They just sit on the table between knife and auger. Then go in all at once and bung the auger.
Struggled last year but just about managed.
They just wont flow.
5 metres then stop. 5 acres all afternoon
