Gathering latest calved cows and calves in for vaccinations/horns and moving to main herd this morning. Youngest calf goes wrong side of a gate on the lane, crashed through hedge and set off. Rest of cows are already in the yard eating carrots. Half an hour of chasing later we manage too get his mother close enough for him too hear her and come back. Then straight up into the yard. 😤😤

who’d have thought a 6 day old calf could run so damn fast! His mother has never gone above a gentle stroll all the time she’s been here!

Should have known better than to say we've sorted (the few) reluctant mothers with calcium :mad::mad:. Five ewes - just bloody 5!!! left to go, and had to give up yesterday after 3 days at her. She's NOT having it. Calls for it it if I hide it, stamps at the dog. Will she let it suck? F*CKING no chance :banghead: unless I pin her to the wall. At least she isn't trying to kill it .

I simply cannot be arsed with the stocks at this stage so they're turned out with the other bottle customers and their families. Wee guy already comes for it when called. He'll still get the odd suck from her as she's easily distracted at feeding time.

Oh and yes of course, its a GIMMER big surprise. Now sporting a black cable tie in her ear tag.

Just moved the in calf cows into fresh pasture. Switch water trough on, leaking from back of valve, put hand in too tighten the nut up and the fitting splits in half… 😳. Dashed home for fitting bucket and just put it on. Bloody things!!
I see god has the same laugh with you as he does with me !! 🤷‍♂️😂

Had a gimmer stuck through the night with 2 lambs, both dead, only one pet to twin on to it. 2 days later she has a massive bag of milk and I was bored so I took the skin off the lamb I twinned on and put it on a triplet that's hungry and she has taken it as well.....

..... don't think I've ever seen that before.....probably never will again.

Just throwing this out to the masses.

A guy I clip for has had 2 newborn single lambs die at under a day old, one has a tear at the side of its mouth and the other had blood coming from its mouth. Booth git up and sooked but died in the morning.

He said they haven't been pecked by anything, and haven't been laid on.

They are out of 2 ewes he bought in so I want sure if it may be a malformity or some sort of disease but having not seen the lambs I am not sure.

He reckons they are on time so aren't premature.

We had one with a weird sort of cleft palate nose, didn't live. Suppose qith a proper cleft palate, the mouth could bleed from pressure while sucking?

Had a lamb early on this year with a cleft lip and what looked like a scar up its nose to about eye level. When I went back to lift ewe and lamb so I could do the right thng then twin a replacement on, it was as full as a barrel and never looked back. Haven't noticed him for a few weeks now so hopefully the hair has grown over the "scar" rather than the lamb dropping off somewhere unnoticed. Be in for a.dose next week so will look for him then.
