Won't hurt pulling down mask for a few seconds.

So are you suggesting that face mask wearing should be banned?
I see it as a courtesy (an attempt, possibly in vain, not to spread my germs of any sort to others)
And, as the other poster said, it can be pulled down for a moment for ID

It has been pointed out that wearing a mask restricts your oxygen intake, especially if it is a well fitting mask, and that reduced oxygen intake puts the body under stress which in turn lowers your immune system therefore making you more susceptible to any passing infection.
It has also been said that your body knows the difference between a challenge from a "real" virus and the "unreal" challenge from a vaccine. The status of your immune system seems to be key to our survival and the more things it can be exposed to the better chance it has of developing the capability to fight off new infections. I assume we are all going to die at some point anyway and I for one do not choose to live my life in fear; especially fear engendered by governments and drug companies with agendas.

No, what I am suggesting is that if this chap has the virus he will have contaminated his hands and then everything he touches before washing his hands and therefor made the situation worse than if he hadn't worn it in the first place.

Wearing your mask may very negligibly reduce your oxygen intake, except of course we will correct that in our natural response by breathing deeper. Natural breathing already means that most of the air we take in is constantly recycled as we do not breathe in and out fully except when we are panting. It does not hurt as we only take approximately 4% of the available oxygen .
However wearing a mask does stop you breathing in the spittle exhaled by all the strangers around you

Amazing to think that if you’d tried to get through customs/security a few short months ago with a mask on, you’d have been told to remove it or risk arrest.

The idea of a mask is that you don't spread it to other people.

If you want actual protection for yourself you will need something more like this:

Trivially so, and less than the effect that weather would have. 1cm H2O is approx equal to 1mbar.

I just think this whole corona virus thing is so complicated that I like to look at it from all angles. I am not suggesting that any of the things I have talked about are things I agree with or approve of, but there are pros and cons to just about every statement or piece of advise given out by the Gov or by doctors/scientists, none of whom seem to think mere mortals are capable of making their own choices. Without freedom of choice what are we?

Alive? It’s been shown time and time again that the average person is incapable of understanding complex risk balancing arguments, and that idiotic sheep will repeat scaremongering, ill informed pseudo-scientific falsehoods which will cause real harm to others (your example being one). We need guidance and stewardship from those are are competent, not from Karen on Facebook.
Sure, you can have the freedom to chose to be an idiot and endanger your own life, but not to the detriment of others’ health aand wellbeing.

I think anyone with severe asthma or reduced lung capacity would disagree with this! inspite of the snazzy graph. I can just speak for myself, but a mask makes it much harder for me to breathe, and i always end up pulling it down,in order to get air.

The guidance is for those who are able to wear masks to do so when social distancing is not easy. People with breathing problems should be allowed to wear visors.

I have a wool felt mask for cooler/damper weather, and will be getting some cotton ones before I next go to town. I'll be much happier, though, with a cotton-linen mix scarf that I know I can breathe through. Maybe it will have to be sacrificed for masks?

Asthmatic myself, so I know what you mean. Suspect a lot is psychological rather than physiological.

got an appointment at bank with my son (11) to open his first current account next week, first got a telephone appointment for an hour, then got to go to bank with passports (they already have copies on file) have to wear facemask or not allowed in, will be kept 2 meters apart with a screen between us and bank staff, a bit ott in my opinion.
