Failure to collect a purchase

Ok so sold a static caravan 6 weeks ago to be collected 10days after purchase.. was paid straight away and was impressed with the whole arrangement. I sold it to a dealer in statics and filled out purchase form etc so it's all above board etc. But 6 weeks on it's still here, I've been put off again and again. Monday morning passed was meant to definitely be the day for it getting picked up but again.. nothing.
So my question, what can I do?
Can I start charging storage for it. It is sitting in my yard getting in the way of lorries turning etc.

Legally I think you have to notify somebody that you will start charging storage as from a time that you specify, if they have not collected the goods. You will be on tricky ground if you damage or resell it. If the buyer paid in full it is no longer your property.

Yes but likewise somebody has left their property in his private yard without permission and there was a 10 day collection period stated in the sale.

Send an invoice for storage costs at £50/week for the time after the initial 10 days.

I could maybe not call it storage, class it as using yard space or something. Maybe that would keep me clear of any come back on the legality of actual storage. I only have a fairly small steading so its always going to be in the way where ever I try to put it.

You wont be able to back charge him storage costs unless stated in contract when sold.
To do it properly you will probably have to send him a recorded letter stating that you are gonna start charging him storage. Even then you will have to give him so much time before incurring the charge.

Pick up the phone and just keep pestering him.

friend had a farm sale last may, livestock and deadstock
a large item of kit £6000, is still on farm, clearly stated every thing to be moved by end may 2018. 1 phone call in jan, was told he'd left it to long, nothing since, who owns the piece of kit ? auctioneers just mumble, and don't give a proper answer

The auctioneers wont want to fall out with the purchasing dealer; the farmer is the soft option, they have had all they are going to get out of him now.
I should have thought the auctioneers have reserved in their terms and conditions, the right to sell the machine on and bill any deficit to the original buyer. Whether they can give a s#@t is another matter....

That should be straightforward. If it was paid for then it's the purchasers problem.
If not paid then it's still his to do with as he pleases.
He must have a fair idea bought it to contact direct

sold some feed barriers on ebay 9 years ago. Think it was £300. He sent the money that was the last we heard from him. Resold.

Sold an old trailer, person gave me the money, he couldnt fit it on the car trailer - wouldnt fit. Supposed to come back never saw him again.

I seem to remember Farm auctions always used to contain a clause, that anything left after a fortnight would be resold.
If any buyer fails to clear their goods , I would send a message that you will resell the item and send the other purchaser a cheque less the re sale costs

Go careful as a lot of caravan static dealers etc are travellers , I would be speaking to them to ask to get it moved.
