Family holiday during term time

Agreed it is good fun, but is it worth compromising your offspring’s education? I’m personally glad that my parents encouraged me through school and didn’t take me out. It made me understand that education is very important, which encouraged me to maximise my potential and got me a great job. Holiday away from home is a luxury, not a necessity.
Do you really think that two weeks of missed school will compromise their education and future career?
Maybe avoiding the run up to exams and the exams themselves might be wise, but surely an interesting trip somewhere (northern Iceland is incredible) would give just as much experience and broaden their horizons more than sitting doing a project in a dull classroom and then going home to do chores and watching t.v.

It would have a material effect, absolutely. How material would depend on the child’s age and the willingness of the teacher to assist in covering the gap.

Widening horizons is great, but if that was the week they were supposed to learn quadratic equation solving, it wouldn’t be great for a future engineering career.

I missed (through sickness) how to solve eigenvectors at Uni, and have struggled with the whole concept ever since.

the week we went away my sons class teacher took half the class (year 6, he is in year 5) away on a residential trip to cornwall leaving the year 5s with a classroom assistant, Thursdays are practically all sport, on the Friday the whole class went on a trip to the beach, half of Monday morning is taken up with religious assembly (which my two chose not to attend) so all in all I don't think he missed out on much.
