Harry Metcalfe of EVO and Harry's Garage and Harry's Farm fame uses a bike to inspect crops. He has a collection of trail bikes including a few Africa Twins and Cagivas if memory serves.

Indicative price £3,5k and no range issues

Just wants a small spinner designed for these, so as to pop down tramlines with slug pellets of Stubble turnips!

Had loads of farm bikes here over the years, current model is a WK125 - cheap Chinese thing, pretty rubbish, but nobody is going to nick it because it's crap. Often conks out resulting in a push home.

Over the years there have been;
Suzuki ts185 - father's favourite, did 15 years or so until it rusted out and fell apart.
Yamaha ty80 - my starter bike, did ages 8-12 quite well, then I was too tall for it.
Yamaha dt175 - bought cheap, reasonable bike, did a couple of years then got stolen 🤬
Yamaha xt350 - little bit top heavy and father dropped it quite a bit, had a fair few issues with reliability and then the spark plug snapped off one day. Got rid.
Suzuki drz400 - great bike, needed high octane petrol or wouldn't run properly. Possibly a bit on the heavy side if you dropped it or the stand sunk in. Some toerag nicked it 🤬🤬
WK 125 - bought new with insurance proceeds. Utterly rubbish, but nobody is going to nick it. Father copes with it, I walk round the cows.

Same here, my better half has done the research on it, she thinks it would suit her a treat . I just phoned the Atv services sales guru, and awaiting an e mail with a price !(y)

Do let us know guide pricing...

As said here, Govt leccy grant and VAT off, will make it look good! What the grant on a bike is though, I cant recall....

Found some info. "the bike needs qualification for the Plug-In Grant, which offers 20% off the up-front price, up to a maximum of £1,500. " A grand off the UBCO and teh VAT, and it's cheap...

Have you seen what those DT175's make now?

They are seriously good - must admit I was really sceptical but that all evaporated in about 150 metres. Gobfuls of torque and low COG, it feels like a mountain bike with a cinderblock where the pedals would be.
Two wheel drive is better than expected, a bit "funny" when standing up at low speed as they almost seem jerky until you get them lined up and then you're off.
My next farm bike will be one of these

Would love to try one trail riding... Wet Welsh bog or muddy Shropshire lane in mid Winter.... 2WD, no problems

Have to take teh bike to the area first, as 75miles might be a struggle on range. Maybe do a day in a "figure of 8", change battery at lunchtime?

Always fancied a bike for the farm. I'm not very 2 wheel savvy... what would be a good bike for someone with limited 2 wheeler experience.

Want to spend as little as possible as it'll be out of my pocket money and not a farm buy...

My crf 230 I bought off a farmer who was refreshing his bike. Cost me a grand, and I’ve changed the battery, and I would say it’s pretty bombproof. Good stand for when you’re stopped, but still starts when I drop it. Also not too heavy to pick up when it does cowp. And makes a very soft burble in low gears when checking the ewes.
@JP1 and others would know a lot more about it all !
Get one! (y)

Many years ago a local machinery dealer sold me a new Yamaha AG100 - small ,low, light ,handlebar and footpeg protection and an enclosed chain (chain had done 9.5k miles when I sold bike on and was still VERY good - was oiled frequently). And it had a rack on the back. Farm bike from down-under - what a machine! Wish you could get that sort of thing in the UK now ....stupid bureaucrats!
There is an air-cooled light 200cc trail bike on the market with a Suzuki engine - it`s a Beta Alp 200 (Italian). Not as good as a Honda but OK ... downside nearly £4.5k!!!
