Farm cats (and kittens)

Location

Loads of them around so let's have a few pictures.

This is our latest addition, Wilbur is the one remaining socialised kitten out of a feral litter of 4 that we found in July in the cubicle house. Luckily as they were only a day old we were able to use them to lure Mum into a stable and confine them so we could socialise. 3 have gone elsewhere as pets and Mum has been trapped and spayed, she did a fantastic job of rearing her first litter but we wanted to make sure it was her last! Cat Protection League have lent us a trap and are paying for the neutering of the 3 ferals which we have accumulated over the last few years.

Doing well with the cat trapping, after getting Mummy Cat caught and spayed on Tuesday was able to catch Granny Cat today., Here she is back in the stable after collection from the vets, will let her out tomorrow once she is not spaced out from the anaesthetic any more. Had hoped to catch Daddy Cat but was more pleased to get this one before she presents us with more kittens. No entire females here now, but we will get Daddy Cat done anyway as no doubt some one else will appear again soon.

This is my cat, he's called Whiskers and originally from Central Asia.
I was working and living in Turkmenistan back in the 2000s, he was part of a litter of 4 born in the stairway for the apartment block in 2006.

At the time I managed to find homes for all except him and he was the one no-one wanted so he ended up living with me.
Anyway in 2013 I had to leave the place and couldn't face leaving him there to fend for himself, so I sent him back on a Lufthansa flight to UK and he spent 3 months in quarantine at a cattery/kennels near Bristol to check for rabies etc then after that he came home to live on the farm.

He has settled in well, not much of a hunter but anyway gets on well with everyone including the dogs

This is Bongo. Although he doesn't look much like a farm cat on this picture, he is an actual killer :nailbiting: He brings rats and rabbits into the porch, or eats them near the trampoline on the lawn if the weather's nice :) He has all the farm cat credentials too. His mum was a farm cat at my cousin's place, and his dad was a smooth talking Bengal from the local town who was just passing through
In summer, we don't see an awful lot of him (too many rabbits to catch) but now the weather's on the turn, he comes in at 6.30am for a day on the beanbag, then disappears about 4 for a night on the tiles :D

This is Aung San Suu Kyi, he's a boy and he lives at the shed. He 'arrived' unexpectedly with blue eyes.....
Aung_San_0.jpg

Today, he helped me clean out in front of the feed barrier...
Aung_San_1.jpg

Then he helped me put silage into the fatties...
Aung_San_2.jpg

He helps with big jobs too....
Aung_San_3.jpg

He can get his own food.....
Aung_San_4.jpg

But he prefers grub laid on especially at this time of year.....
Aung_San_5.jpg

And he also very much likes a cuddle...

This was my big farm cat Elvis. A stray I started feeding much to mothers disgust then he became a huge part of our family...though he did like to leave us gifts of rabbit remains on the doorstep. I now have my little Lennon who is a bit more pampered and a bit less "farm" than what Elvis was!

That's the last of the ferals caught and 'done' - success! All credit to Cat Protection League for lending a trap and giving us vouchers which covered the cost of 2 spays and a neuter. All cats been seen since release and appear healthy too so seem to have no post-op complications.

CPL do a fantastic job, and are always on the look out for new farm homes for neutered feral cats, or if you will take a kitten from them, they will then give you neutering vouchers for when they are old enough.
