I received this text message this morning from our tenant. Firstly I couldn't believe what I read, and secondly I'm at a loss for a polite reply. The tenant is a farmers daughter. Appropriate suggestions would be welcome.

Hi..... we seem to have a mole digging up the garden, do you think best to just leave or do you have a suggestions as to what we should do about it? Thought you may know better than us?! Thanks..... Mrs x

I'd be grateful you have a tenant that cares enough about the garden to get in touch. Suggest a local pest controller or some sonic garden device from the garden centre.

It's the ignorance on septic tanks that never ceases to amaze.

me "your tank is blocked with wiped"

Tenant "we don't use wipes ever"

me" I know you had sweetcorn for tea last night, where do you think the wipes come from"

tenant "oh".

Can’t see anything wrong myself. Tenant wants to protect your garden and is looking for advice. Better than going round and finding it all covered in molehills .

Reply to her you think it’s a bit extreme leaving the house over a mole hill ? on a serious note imagine if she didn’t care enough to ask you?

She wants you to come down with some traps and catch it for her. She is delegating the responsibility away from herself
Is she responsible though . Wonder where it says she is in the tenancy agreement .
If other pests were in the house, say a bees nest or something , would it be tenant or landlords responsibility to deal with it.
Just asking .

Under our tenancy the tenant is responsible. House and garden has to be kept to standard. If moles ruin the garden it is akin to rats in the house in terms of who is responsible

Not sure I see the problem with the text? Was fairly polite and she was just after some advice?

Am I misunderstanding? I am a farmer and I'm not sure I'd know what to do about moles...
So your savvy enough to go on a forum and ask about wheat prices, drilling techniques etc, but you are not savvy enough to google “mole in my garden what do I do?”
