Farm dogs and tax relief

Dog could just about manage his own Tax return if asked. Big paws, though. Might find the digital pawprint awkward.

What annoys is that he isn't on the farm animals account at the Vet's. No discount for working dogs for paying on the nail.

Just wondering when is a dog allowed to be classed as a farm dog for tax relief purposes. Do you have to have livestock?

Nah, all farms are entitled to a dog. So are butchers.

Yorkshiremen are entitled to a dog-as long as it's a whippet (also get tax relief on clogs)

If you are shepherd in Bavaria, owning a certain breed of dog is mandatory.

Unfortunately you have to have a spare bedroom if you want a collie, because it's a boarder.

But the value or cost of a working dog seems to be going up each year. So if I was a tax inspector, I would charge owners tax on a notional £200/year increase in valuation/dog.

Simple answer is, does the dog satisfy the test of being wholly and exclusively for the purpose of the trade. A ratter could satisfy that test as could a sheep dog or guard dog. However if someone were to tell me they had Pomeranian as a guard dog I might be a little unconvinced. The other issue as highlighted above, if a bitch has puppies and all her costs have been claimed 100% business then 100% of her outputs, puppies, must be brought in as income.
