Farm Engineering

The KV time drill had a packer wheel arrangement on the back.
Little solid rubber tyres that kept blocking in sticky conditions and jamming solid.

It was decided to fit Vaddy following times to it.

Cue the music...

What way do you get in at the timing chain on the poor wee Honda Quad?

Remove the rear axle/swing arm completely. Starter motor off, Pull start off, generator off, flywheel off, rear case off.

They're a pushrod engine so only a short chain.

The worst bit is you need to pull the camshaft out so you need to stop the cam followers falling into the engine.

(Pair of magnetic pick up tools)

Annoyingly it still has a noise, mainly at idle.
I think there could be a spring missing from the decompressor.

But the chain definitely needed doing.

Is that a 450cc as i have friends one that spits back and backfires at tickover am sure its timing chain as that would cause the symptoms, is it not better to remove the engine, also you speak of removing flywheel is that a puller job...

A 350
TRX 350FW iirc.
Last of them was 2006
They do say to remove the engine to do this job, seemed like too much hassle to me...

This one ran perfectly despite the chain just titty-tasseling around on the sprockets.

Ideally use a puller to remove the flywheel.
This had the external thread on the flywheel centre, an M28x1.0 thread to be exact.

I've a puller for sale...

Check the Timing Mark's for alignment before pulling the chain out, especially if you have no noise. As the spitting back could just be fuelling If you have a rubber diaphragm in the carb (as above) best check that first.

yes big bag firt comes to mind or perhaps round bales ust draw along side and pick them up and unload at the other end
I'm hoping my fertiliser days are over but, as you say, leave for the field with 12T of fertiliser and the spreader on the trailer, crane the spreader off and drop the trailer, hitch the spreader then load yourself using the crane. Also very useful for collecting bargains from farm sales...:rolleyes:

That's pretty much the plan, for feeding seed + fert drill, and fert spreader, less time waiting on loaders, more time sowing/spreading hopefully. Working on a wee donkey engine to run it too.

Or a set of long hoses you could couple to a spare tractor valve just for loading?

Yeah, that's being thought about as an option too.
I did this to run an auger unload trailer for bulk fertiliser, worked well, used flat face couplings on a bracket to the side of the spreader, if you incorporate a ball valve on the pressure line you can pressure the spool, then connect the pipes before opening the valve so saving getting in and out so much. (Shut the valve before disconnecting and you are ready for the next cycle)
