As with everything this year more than ever we are going through everything with a fine tooth comb. Insurance is up for renewal and wondering who others use that you can actually talk to someone sensible when things go wrong.
Currently with Nfu and japppy with the service we receive. Very supportive on claims etc ….. but then so they all should be if the claim is Genuine! So where is best to start looking?

also do others insure everything with one company or split it around?

I will be very happy to have a look at. We can usually tell from looking through existing insurance schedules if your cover is right and whether pricing is in the right area. Will quite often say " you are getting a good deal where you are so little point in moving" or this merits us spending more time on and getting quotes for you.
We will always endeavour to give you an honest and straight forward opinion.

I am due for my Renewal with NFUM and I have asked for clarification on the actual financial ramification since my cancelling my membership of the NFU itself, from the Branch rep.

A very vague response would be my comment at this time... Anyone else gone through this, and like to comment on their experiences?

I indicated that my preferred option would be to remain with the Mutual even if they are a few quid more, but if they will not play ball, then regrettably I will need to move, so I am watching this thread with great interest!

They will keep you dangling until very close to if not after renewal date as to put you under pressure to ,,,,, just renew your policy ..

They do state that aside from the “bonus” for being a member…..they will guarantee you not to be under-insured even if factually your are. Not sure whether that has ever been tested though.

Yes, I had this point mentioned, and thought I would email back for greater clarification... ;)

Keep us posted! 👍

It’s mentioned in the back of the policy schedule with an explanation. In theory it could work out to be incredibly quick at paying for itself if you did find yourself underinsured due to grain prices rising over the season.

But when push comes to shove sometimes the wriggling starts!

I had one particular claim with them recently and NFU Mutual were good, the loss adjuster less than, and the contractor’s handler abysmal.
Yet a few years ago the loss adjuster was excellent because they had a good working relationship with another contractor who wasn’t trying to pull a fast one.

I cannot fault NFU Mutual for payout speed though. Sent them the invoice for a small claim without even providing any quotes first and the money was transferred the same day I submitted it.

I did the same a year or 3 back, and could not see the benefit in jacking in the NFUM for a couple of hundred quid.

I think a lot of it is down to the local NFU Mutual agent and how much discount they choose to apply.

The broker on that occasion was 50% more than my current policy cost. 🙈

I will still go back to them for another quote in a couple of years.

Will do keep you updated.. Thanks for the pointer on the wording location. One for the weekend. ;)

Like you, I have had some excellent service from the Claim bods. This year was a particular case in point after Arwen wrecked a barn roof and I submitted a claim.

Insurances are only good or bad when you make a claim.

Sometimes paying more for NFU will probably pay off in the long run. I know this from my experience

My mother still uses the NFU for insuring various rental houses (I've long since given them the boot) and recently had to make a claim on one of the policies. The service she got was shocking. They washed their hands of doing anything to do with the claim once she'd registered it with them, and made my 80 yo mother deal with the all the various surveyors and contractors herself. The NFU staff did SFA. The also immediately upon receiving the claim declared she was underinsured, despite her having asked at the last renewal if the rebuild values were correct, but when the next renewal came up and she asked for revised rebuild values they refused to provide any unless she paid about £2k for a surveyors report. Their general attitude was awful.

Just been through this all with the NFU… they were wanting too double my vehicle policy and put my farm business up by £200… they refused to budge on my vehicle policy so iv left them and changed insurer and got a better level of cover for the same price I was Paying last year… and Iv also got my farm business policy down £400 a year cheaper and a better level of cover with the Nfu still after referring them too a quote I had elsewhere and they matched it so I stuck with them…
