Farm jeep wish list ( aka the Ineos Grenadier Farm R&D thread)

The owner of Ineos, Sir James Ratcliffe, is one of the rabid Brexit supports. So yes, I will blame him 100% for playing bloody dangerous games with the livelihood of British people and the prosperity of the British economy. It is a commercial no-brainer that he would site his factory abroad, not in the UK that will be outside the EU, and that much should have been obvious to all sensible businessmen for the duration.

Happen he was waiting for the 30th June "Deadline" to pass before dropping this bombshell.

Could be the beginning of a British Manufacturing blitz......

genedier will need bomb proof reliability , thats the main selling point of toyota , especially second hand which keeps new prices up , is the bmw engine or the drive train up to the challenge , that will make or break any new entrant ie ask yourself ,would the taliban be happy to put a machine gun in the back and beat it to destruction ?

Anything with a BMW engine is not going to be anything like Toyota reliability.

The engine in the 79 is nowhere near the same power. It is the same swept volume with the same block. Europe is on Euro6 emissions and there is a further stage imminent this Autumn.
Did I say that the Grenadier is far better? Well it should be because it is a thoroughly new design compared to a, what, forty year old design that has been mildly updated to a v8 and front coils. It is not a bad vehicle, of course not, but the fact remains that it is very expensive and Toyota do not believe it worth the cost of even trying to sell it in the UK or Europe for road use. You cannot escape that fact, which is not going to change. It’s not as if they don’t build it in right hand drive even, because they do.
Both vehicles have the same Euro compliant Toyota engine, the 70 series has a single turbo the 200 a twin, resulting in more HP.
The market in Europe for the 70 series would be fairly small which could account for Toyota not supplying them for that market, instead concentrating on the Hi-Lux, which in my opinion is not what it used to be, Toyota have lost market share to the Ford Ranger.

All I want is something that will pull 3.5 / 4 t , very basic with an alloy butt proper drawbar like a 'Trantor ' with a nice quiet cab,
55mph topspeedwill do. Manual gearbox fine.

And hopefully Min of 25 mpg.

Actually I might just get an iveco chasis cab with a very well built towbar or maybe even 5th wheel as well on the back , getting a bit impatient ......
Sounds like you yearn for a 4trak

Vinyl seats
Wash out flooring
Cruise control
Decent mirrors
Good mpg empty
Proper all way steering wheel adjustment
Proper seat adjustment ; height and leg room

Please please please bring back the occasional third centre dickey seat

Tailgate or split door short tailboard options with cover flap so you're not paranoid about breaking your dog's leg

Fixed full height bulkhead option for rear
Actually if you really seriously think about vinyl seats hard enough..... they are carp, split quickly and the stuffing comes out. Cloth seats are way, way better! If you're likely to have a wet bum then a removable seat cover is better.

the grenadier has sorted that
Going by the clay modelling yes they have but you have to step over the drawbar to get to it on RHD models. The Knott hitches are a pain in ar$e as they are made for LHD and the jockey wheel is on the passengers side so you are constantly cocking a leg over the drawbar and that ain't getting any easier. Bradley is better as jockey wheel is still on drivers side. We move the jockey wheel on our trailers to a drawbar clamp back near the body on the drivers side, easier to get at and doesn't foul the back door of the defender.

This is a good concept http://oxgvt.com/the-ox-all-terrain-vehicle/. Has me interested. I still run my faithful LR110 LWB, but I'm in the market for another proper 'utility' at some point. My LR has now got to 100,000 miles and I've had it 26 years. Last proper trip it did for me was from sunny Suffolk to North of Manchester in one hit. Jumped in, set off and saw signs for Bolton. 500 miles later I was home Just in time for New year. Towing empty up and full back.

Yeah but
There aren't any sound ones left I doubt, ?....was one advertised not solong ago, mind you, that had a claimed 70k on the clock and a lady owner, :unsure:late nineties, tbh I funnily enough til then I didn't realise the 2.8 t whatever was such a tower (3.5t)

Actually would Rather if was more tractor like but lighter than fast track, Heavy (thick) single frame chassis with integral or very well designed hd tow hitch is the requirement ir,
got to be strong and rot proof for road safety at least.

But a Unimog is a tad ungainly, poor lock ? too heavy?

A trantor with at least a 110 horse power 4cl , dual purpose tyres 2 seats the drivers main being air suspended.
If the balance and p. To weigh ratio is right it doesn't even need to be 4wd jusg maybe limited slip diff. or lock d can move stock to where its drier/ harder, up to the roadside pens etc.... keep off in winter etc

Good radio but none of the other stuff needed for me .

Toyota have sold over 10 million Landcruisers in one form or another, their reliability is legendary, which is the main reason they are used in Australia, Africa and the Middle East, you just cannot afford to be stuck in the middle of nowhere with a breakdown, we still have our old 100 series that has done 700,000 kms, there would not be too many vehicles that are still going strong after covering that distance.
Bolting parts from different manufactures together in the hope of producing a decent vehicle does not bode well for the Grenadier, there may well be a niche market for them, but this would be limited to mainly the UK, the rest of the world will continue to go with the tried and tested reliable Toyotas.
Think you could be wrong about the grenadier . It will sold worldwide markets are opening up ,and enquiries are coming in. The two factories where it was going to be built ,as not got enough space so probably got to move to France to the old Mercedes factory .

That Landrover vinyl type cover is pretty good and doesn't absorb wet or dust like cloth does
