If I'm going to buy a foreign built 4x4 then there are many better candidates. If it's UK built I'll swallow that to support it.
Yes, but... I can understand the reasons behind having construction in somewhere like Thailand (not France!), what with the large costs of set-up, employment etc.*, but what I simply can't get my head around is why design is still crap. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Anyone on TFF could sit down and, within a few minutes, come up with at least half a dozen genuine improvements for such a vehicle. Bleeding obvious ones to me are footwell plugs, wind up windows, gavl'ed or stainless chassis, boot-space heater, 12v plugs by all doors, front and rear hitches. Others will say no to some of these, fine, they don't have to be there since modern production lines can offer bespoke vehicles. I'm not bothered about any 'luxury', bin it, the cost savings will allow practical things as standard. Anyway, if they had their brains working, it should all be electrically powered.

*However, post-Brexit, there is nothing to stop massive incentives to construct in the UK. For myself, I'm happy to see a vehicle construction plant pay only a nominal 'business rate', say even as little as £1k, just for the huge benefits it brings through employment and secondary spending.

Yes.
The actual hypocrisy is that the owner of the company championed Brexit but when it comes down to it puts his money into the EU. That it will be yet another import is less of an issue than the stinking hypocrisy shown by the Boss
I will not buy a foreign built Grenadier on principle. That the other candidates are also foreign built is irrelevant.

So your not going to buy anything not built or produced in the UK ........... probably best step away from whatever device you are about to reply on !!

Isn’t the irony more that Ratcliffe backed Brexit? ?

there is irony on both side yes

However, surely you can see that if a ready to go factory suddenly became available because of C19 and it was a LOT cheaper than building in the UK as a result that has to be looked at? - they have only announced that they are reconsidering the option so far ........ IF a UK government want to keep it in the UK then they have to compete and offer grants and tax breaks to make Wales more attractive .................... personally I suspect they will be doing and this is all part of the game of poker such a manufacturer plays when choosing where to site production, its called running a business!

Let's say that instead of the rumored 40k price tag doing this means it could be 30k instead ....... would you really pay 10k more just because it was built in Wales?

Do you not own a house and business full of stuff built or produced abroad already?

I didn't say that at all and you know it, so don't be so disingenuous. Or are you genuinely a bit slow on the uptake? I don't think you are.

I happen to be relying on my brand spanking new 'Made in Ireland' computer. On brand spanking new super fast 4G broadband giving over 50mbps upload and 35mbps upload. Which is a bit of improvement over my previous 1.8 to 2.5 mbps down and 0.8 up. Can now watch Grenadier videos in glorious 4K ultra high definition.

There is no way on Earth that this vehicle is going to retail below £35k in its most basic form. Even pickups built in Thailand and South Africa are not much below £30k. The station wagon will be taxed like a car, inclusive of VAT so I fail to see it selling under £50k

The Welsh Assembly has already thrown millions at this venture in the form of infrastructure and promised grants, partly due to the Ford engine plant next door being shut down.

I said from the beginning, and it has been well documented on this forum, that their plan to import nearly all components from abroad to be assembled in a South Wales shed was not realistic or viable. I've no doubt that France is a more attractive place to build the vehicle. That much should have been obvious to a deaf bat, especially with Brexit looming. This clown of a multi-millionaire was one of the foremost champions of Brexit though, but he will probably not invest in the UK. Ineos has invested very little in its UK operations, mostly buying plant from companies that wanted out and sweating the assets until they are scrapped. His investments in the business have mostly been in continental Europe over the years and he has moved his domicile over there several times to avoid UK tax.

Not a man that I feel inclined to line his pockets with any cash of mine. Prefer to give it to something made in the UK when practical, but otherwise anywhere else but to his company after thus fiasco.
