Farm Machinery Cleaning

Hi everyone,

I have started a business this year call Cambridge Pressure Washing, covering Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk and Hertfordshire and as a means of diversifying I would like to clean agricultural machinery. I have read with great interest an old thread from 2019 which talks about Autosmart xls and would be very interested in meeting with someone on their farm to see first hand how this product is applied and the types of equipment used in modern day farming. Although I am based in Cambridge I am willing to travel and would love to learn first hand the issues that farmers have when cleaning machinery. I believe there is a big market out there when it comes to cleaning farm machinery and although doing private pressure washing, need to diversify my business. Is there anyone out there, who would be prepared to show me what type of equipment they use when cleaning machinery, and what type of farm machinery is currently in todays modern farm world..other than elbow grease of course..!!. I currently have two pressure washers which I use, one is a hot/cold wash with electric and diesel for the hot wash side and pushes out about 2500 psi and the other is a v tuf which puts out 4500 psi maximum which is too strong for cleaning of equipment.

Is anyone able to help me in my quest.. I don't mind getting my hands dirty and I am prepared to travel, even if it means being there at 6am..!! I can be contacted either on this forum, or through [email protected] or on my mobile 07950 330 271 any help would be greatly appreciated.

Good on you for starting a business doing something different, hope it goes well (y)

Maybe you could offer to provide a "clean machine" certificate for Red Tractor Assurance? I only know about the crops side but you have to prove in the inspection that all grain handling equipment like trailers, buckets etc has been cleaned. People like things which make inspections easier to pass. Probably best to check the ins and outs of that first though

Hi Adam, many thanks for your reply, I will certainly look into that, as it sounds like a good start. It would also be good to get into a farm and actually see the equipment that is being used and the set up of how it is cleaned.

Take a look at AMC (agricultural machinery cleaning) on Facebook. They do something similar to what you are aiming to do. Might give you some ideas!

Hi Goodbeef, many thanks for your reply. I have looked at AMC on facebook, and although it has given me some ideas, this is a whole new level in that the services they provide are full valeting / repairs / re-sprays which would not come cheap. I am looking to clean farm machinery at source..i.e on the farm, so it is presentable, the equipment works and is not clogged up with mud, straw or debris and which is not going to cost an arm and a leg to be cleaned. I think that if you wanted a full valet on a piece of farm machinery for a show or to sell, then these are the guys. Can I ask a couple of questions, if you wanted your farm machinery cleaned, lets say twice a year or every quarter at a good price so the machine is in a good clean working order throughout each of the four seasons, i.e spring, summer, autumn and winter would you use AMC each time or would cost, time, seasonal demand and budget be a major factor... and also how many pieces of agricultural machines do you have on you farm..? just so I understand the world that I want to enter into a bit better. Get in touch with anyone that exports machines to EU. After brexit it will be a nightmare to get them clean for export. So there is your ready made market

Hi Robt,
Many thanks for that, to be honest I had not thought about Brexit or export machines but I will certainly look into this. Many thanks for your suggestion. Rgds Mark
