Concrete all the way. If laid correctly will last many more years then tarmac.

We have 10-15 acres of land with sand and gravel underneath it. I asked the local Planners some time back, if I can quarry for my own use on the farm and process it to concrete a roadway. They failed to respond at the time. But I know you are allowed to quarry and use unprocessed material, on farm.

Local quarry sells 20mm chips and quarry dust mixed for potholes and a few folk have said its working well.

That's the sort of thing I was thinking but some mix cement with it, creating a 6" concrete road out of existing aggregate.
I don't know the costs though??

Looked into having it done here on a 1m long track, they quoted £32k (some time ago now) but after speaking with a few people who had their tracks done decided not to. Tarmac quote was £92k for the same stretch.

£32000/4200 is £7.60/m2

100mm of concrete at 80/cube is £8 per m2 I know you would have to lay it but be hell of a better job?

You wouldn't want to put more than a car on 4" of concrete though. If you are going to have farm traffic and/or lorries over it, you will want 6" (+ fibres/reinforcing) and on a good base which, on your prices, is suddenly £12 per m2 & counting....

How many broken farmyards have been concreted at 4" in the past as 'they'll never have any traffic on them......'?

But where comparing to something else, which do you think is a better job 4" concrete or the cement treatment??

Whilst I agree you wouldn't want more than a car on 4" how many yards are much less and only break in certain points where telehandlers are turning.
It's all about the sub base, I bet these points are soft underneath and would still crack with 8", admitted take a lot longer! Dug up plenty yards that are less than 4 and some how didn't look se bad. And then there's spots that have cracked 6" because sub base wasn't good
