For balance, we have to run 8 wheelers because 6 wheelers won't last - and we're still replacing front spring leaves all the time due to fatigue. I've been there about 13 months, and think we've replaced 8 front springs in that time.
Trucks are completely spent after 1.1, 1.2 million km, trunnions f**ked, cab mounts last 300,000 at best.

Basically rural NZ generates/gathers revenue for Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch projects - really not too far removed from the UK situation when you look at it like that?

It's getting like that.
Our local council is proposing redirecting over a million dollars away from roading to "personnel" which really doesn't bode well.

They're already at the point where "repairs" largely consist of painting around potholes with an aerosol, where they would fix the hole if they had the resources to do it.

You have it easy down South, up here they paint round our pot holes with an arsehole.

so,it has nothing to do with sir john key 50 ton trucks .
but no where in kiwi land north off tokoroa can take 50 ton trucks .
but the blue bloods up here,
insist on over loading as, if its a rite of birth
excluding canterbury with its gravel soils

Seems to vary a lot depending what county your in, to be fair the roads are not to bad round here but a tractor that will do 30 mph don't get opened up to often.
The chap with the van that puts circles round the pot holes makes me laugh, in the old days they would send the lads out to use there own initiative and fill the holes in not much longer than it takes to draw round them, but now they seem to have to pay the chap with the van, there was one parked in our gateway on Thursday for a few hours feck knows what he was doing but it must have been important as its all progress

I guess our 36 tonne limit helps save roads... income from permits to go over that limit plus the fine for getting caught overloaded probably helps with keeping potholes filled :sneaky::)
