Shitballs, any idea how many kg seed/ha for a straight sunnie crop?

to plant ?
generally around 35 - 45,000 seeds per ha ( ( 3 - 4 seeds / metre, on metre rows ) for a dry land crop. Or about 2 kg / ha, depending on seed size

or harvest yield ?
Where the photo was taken, maybe 2 t / ha or more, but the crop is quite patchy as they didn’t get an even establishment at planting due to marginal moisture conditions & heat, & then suffered a bit of fungal diseases when it started raining again in March

Are you allowed to shoot them?

That's another thing you do on a big scale compared to here, pests of biblical proportions. At least here we can scare the pigeons off onto a neighbours field.

all native wild life, reptiles, mammals, birds are protected by law, so in theory no . . .

to be fair, a lot of the shooting is about keeping them on the move & not getting to complacent around the gas guns, more so than actual outright slaughter & elimination.
Just like your pigeons, it’s about getting them to move on . . .
the two biggest issues he has is 1) - the fields are next to a creek & a tree line ( big old nesting trees ) & 2) - his are the only sunnies around that I know of for maybe 50 - 100 km. There isn’t even any grain sorghum crops around to divert their attention for a while . . .

Have taken a couple of weeks off to plant my winter ( cool season ) crops.
Starting on the bread wheat, then the durum & will finish off with chickpeas
