No floods here but last nights wind gave me a lot more sky. The trees were about 100’ tall. I remember my grandfather planting them. Neighbours are happy

I'm trying to convince my long-suffering wife that we really could have a few dozen turkeys cruising about with the cattle

I'm not getting much traction there, so we may just have some show up, not sure if guineas would like our winter "free range" or not, we had them at our old farm, the cheeky pansies

Presumably it is exactly these flooding events that have created the plain and the ridiculous depth of topsoil you have. Must have been a regular event for longer than we can imagine.
I can almost get the idea that it's a good place to farm based on what can be achieved when conditions fall right but definitely not for me battling fire and flood tbh.
On the flip side over here people have decided the much smaller flood plains we have are a good place to build houses, now if they were on stilts it might work out but no, they have water halfway up the first floor instead.
Me being me wouldn't do either, I prefer spending 2 hours thawing pipes this morning so I can get some apples squashed. Fingers crossed they didn't freeze again while I came in for a brew.
