Farmer Roy's Random Thoughts - I never said it was easy.

I have a seep in the bottom of a gravel pit that the sheep drink from. The hole has become very boggy and shallow so I decided to clean it out. Unfortunately the hole is steeper than the pic looks and it sucked me in. It's a horrible feeling going deeper and deeper not knowing when you will hit the bottom.

I can appreciate it is not a nice feeling, it can obviously be a real dangerous situation when the soil goes like quicksand.
Thankfully you are ok (y)

Looks like it. Cut a piece of the lung off and see if it floats in water. Pasturella lungs sink healthy lungs will float even if they are a bit discoloured

Any pneumonia lung should have trouble floating. Wouldn't think it'd be an indicator of which type of pneumonia.

Is Pasteurella just the most common one found amongst sheep so it's assumed to be the cause?

Not sure of which variety causes sheep deaths but the P portion of the vaccine given to sheep is generally against pasteurella.

We had 3 cases in one lot of ewes last winter and when the vet PM’d one he explained that sheep are difficult to identify as being sick because they show few signs of being ill.Usually the first sign is being dead.
