It’s amazing to watch those guys at work! It’s unfortunate that they are needed but it would be an awesome job to do!

According to Mick, it's a real growth industry world wide ( climate change is real ) , especially the Mediterranean. . .
He has bought water bombing aircraft out of the US & Spain
He has done training in Portugal
Last couple of years they have had contracts / planes on standby in Indonesia

He doesn't see himself being out of work.
They used to be Ag pilots, but decided there was a lot more money in dropping water rather than spraying crops

I can believe it! We have to wait for the plane until April now, when he is released from fire duties. Used to be available from end of Feb on but now they keep them on standby longer just in case.

Do wildfires do any good at all in Auatralia? Like some places in the world a fire will burn any crappy undergrowth and let new fresh growth come through and everything is better and healthier because of it. Or is it all destruction and doom :(:(

A lot of native flora are well adapted to fire, indeed, many need it for regeneration or to germinate seeds. In many ways the Australian landscape has been shaped by fire for thousands of years. Fire has been used as a management tool for a long time, but it is very misunderstood & over used. But, it is cheap & easy . . .
If you get a chance, read some of Alan Savory's ( holistic management ) comments on the use of Fire as a tool
A " cool " burn can do what you say, clear up dry oxidised material & encourage new growth
However, fires like this one are generally just bad. Much damage to animals, soils, erosion, plant species, carbon releases into atmosphere, damage to infrastructure etc etc.
Very destructive, which is why as. Country we put a lot of effort & money into bushfire control

Headers go on combines.

You grow the sorghum for the grain then, not silage?

Nah, the bit out the front is called the comb or the platform or the front . . .:)

Yeah, grain sorghum.
Too hot / dry for dryland corn growing, although corn is a significant irrigated crop
Main end use for grain is cattle & chickens, although it is also used in pet food ( dry dog food ), bio fuel ethanol & every now & then China buys a boatload for alcohol for human consumption
