Farmers and fitness

Slightly offbeat request!
Any farmers on here who have a fitness regime/do regular exercise outside working hours? Would be interested to know how you shoehorn fitness into your day, and if it has helped with problems such as back pain niggles or improved concentration/energy levels at work. It's for a magazine article so you need to be happy to be quoted. You can PM if you'd rather not comment publicly !

I've lost 3 stone in weight and feel 10 years younger. I may not look it though . Sitting in the farm office all day eating then going home to watch tv and eat was slowly killing me , stress lack of exercise and eating to much

I’d love to have time , always feel odd when our with friends who all talk about going to the gym and how many whatever they can lift or run. I do like mountain biking but with 2 young kids there’s no time at The end of the day . I was thinking about how nice it was when I was at collage when Wednesday afternoons dedicated to sports - perhaps I should implement it here :)

My wife has been doing this Joe wickes thing that’s all the rage at the moment.

She was just about to start it one night when I got home so I joined in. I have always clashed myself as pretty fit in a strength way but very unfit when it comes to running and stamina.

20 minutes later I was absolutely exhausted. I kept doing it for a few days and it genuinely got easier and I did feel better, but as usual I got bored and stopped.

The majority of this forum if covering the 10,000 steps a day need only do some very very simple stretch exercises first thing in the morning and they will stay fit enough.

When I was back working on a dairy farm I would cover 10,000 steps by around 10am easily most days and it wasn't a particularly labour intensive farm. I bet a lot of livestock farmers here do way more steps and calories than that.

Yes I do, often over 20000 steps a day.
Unfortunately, my phone counts bumps while driving a tractor or loader as steps, so half of those are while bumping around on the forklift.

That probably describes most farmers I know. They’re strong. They’re capable. They aren’t exactly in shape.

Poor eating habits. Stress. Lack of energy outside of work. Most farmers are victims of it all.

I’d hate to see how truly out of shape I would be if I didn’t have farm chores to keep me where I am, but I’m under no delusion that I’m near peak form or health ?
