Farmers earn more from YouTube than their crops

I find watching tractors driving up and down as dull as actually doing it.
I’ve been watching a lot of dairy farmers which are far more interesting- in the UK Funky Farmer and Tom Pemberton and from across the pond 10th Generation Dairyman and SaskDutchKid.

One doing cropping but more regeneratively from Illinois is Farmer on the Prairie.

No way seems like they are short of something to do looks like a complete waste of time

How is upto 4,000 acres of bare ground looking for something to do? Basically its no different to wet holes left in the uk that you then return to when its dried up but on a much bigger scale. If they have 4,000 acres of wet holes for them that could be another 4000-8000 tonnes of wheat to harvest and sell. How is that looking for something to do?

Ha ga can you imagine the trailing about you would do with those huge machines he’s spread over 40000 acres if I’m not mistaken! If he’s really that keen surely a mounted drill would be better

It’s far quicker with 84ft of drill x 5 than some mounted drills. His hoppers hold 800 ac worth of seed and fert.

I enjoy watching Millennial Farmer, How Farms Work, Brian Farming Videos, Welker and Mike Mitchell.

When we were over in the US harvesting my brother and his crew were the next town over from Shelby Montana where the Welkers farm. They had a rained off day so they messaged the Welker guys to ask if they could go for a look and apparently they were really nice guys. I've heard Nick Welker on a podcast recently saying they now have the videos edited by someone else as it is now such a big job to do himself. I think they seem genuine people and what you see on the videos is quite representative. Montana is a really nice place to be, we were harvesting on a 75,000ac farm there, 35,000 of which was for sale (still is if you have a spare $16million https://montanaranches.com/big-horn-farm-18000000-hardin-mt/)

Millennial farmer is interesting too, yes he has free equipment most of the year but wouldn't you take it if offered? I like how he still seems humble about it and regularly acknowledges that he is lucky and it's only because of people watching his videos that he gets it.

Mike Mitchell is just crackers, but then I think anyone would be sitting in a 5000ac field drilling. They do seem to run machines together though, so at least there's some company.

I was messing around with google maps for something else and made a map of where these guys are.

well done on posting the map, interesting to see how near they all are,

mike and welker relatively close, amusing to see how all the fields near mike are full of wet spots too, they look even worse on the satelite image, its bloody bleak up where they both are!

Sounds like a short wet spell that takes a long time to dry

Great to see where they are,any chance of putting `One Lonely Farmer and Cole the corn star on aswell?

Added them to the map. Cole seems quite private about where he is which is fair enough, but a quick google thinks it's near Marshalltown, Iowa. While looking I noticed in Marshalltown there's a big JBS plant, worth a look on Streetview and satellite view for the huge lot full of trucks and trailers. There's definitely a few sausages made there everyday!

I watch olf.....brilliant, my sense of humour. World weary but seems to be happy with his new wife and kid.
Lord Muck, ...really enjoy his videos done with a bit of pee take in them.
Tom pemberton.....seems a real nice lad
Farmer Phil.....interesting with his bulls for the factory and slurry spreading.
Funky farmer, good bloke who really describes uk family farming to his audience.
I can't get away with millennial farmer also Ollies farm (he gives the image that farmers can just go out and buy new gear as and when they want).
