Farmers earn more from YouTube than their crops

I watched a video the other night with the top ten earners in the world from farming utube channels.

Can't find the link right now but Tom Pemberton was about No 8 from memory and I think that Larson farms was the top one.

I can see why they do it.
Those things are complete bull. I watched one on millennial farmer they included all his equipment in the estimations which they had completely under estimated then tried to say it only cost him $70 000 to grow all his corn! The real revenue has to do with merchandise sales. Plus YouTube revenue has a lot is to do with how many views you can get get as a % of your subscribers. I'm pretty sure these are not getting as much as they say plus these a lot of behind the senses stuff too like the commitment to editing and stuff. On social media you see Tom Pemberton up at strange hours editing vidoes, reckons it takes him 3hrs to edit one video. I listened to a podcast called 'Working Words' which is hosted by Brain Brown from 'Brain's Farming videos' on youtube he had 'Farm hand Mike' another YouTuber on there and they discussed the in's and out of the YouTube game it was an interesting listen.

One Lonely Farmer I think on his Ag Talk and Raw was having a good laugh, he was saying all the ones he had seen were either way overstating the amount or way underestimating. The most money he reckons comes from sponsorship advertisement as though he didn't say which but to appear at one show firms have to pay for advertising in one of the US ag mags whose fees are extortionate so the firms have cottoned on to the fact that it is cheaper to pay a couple of thousand to a Youtuber to showcase their products and reach more people than pay a heck of a lot more for a photo or article in a magazine.

I was listening to a podcast the other day with Chet Larson on who was saying they don't actually take money when they have demos but if it is something they are interested in they'll demo it and be respectful but want to be able to be honest about how it turns out like with one of the cultivation implements they demoed the other year they had issues with it in their typical soil conditions and went over the good and bad in their circumstances with the rep who later on brought one that was better suited for what they were looking for and brought it. But they still get heat both online and locally because they get demo equipment to try though some seem more as though they're on lease with the manufacturer than on demo similar to how they lease their combines.

I listened to the same podcast as well though I have the 2nd one to actually still listen to it amazed me to hear the reasoning of some people that told him as he works for Versatile he shouldn't film or show other manufacturers equipment though one of the comments he made reminded me of the JD dealer thread on here.

I think a vast majority of farming Youtubers have run out of ideas and to put it politely, they are now just filming tat just to get content up on the tube.

I could name a few that would be better just putting the camera down every now and again and just focus on filming things that are actually quality but then it's quantity over quality that pays with the video watch hours per month.

I tried to get into one channel (will not say name because he seems like a salt of the earth guy) but it's all forced fun, the keywords are always 'laughs' & 'banter'... but it's all forced, cringy and most of the time non existent.

Good to see Chuckie2009 back uploading welding videos, but for how long he will keep his political views off his channel and it on the air is yet to be seen.
