Trying to remember the names of the farms they used to have,:scratchhead: Was it Easton Lodge as the arable unit, then there were a coupled of dairy units , one in Scotland, I think Rog Wood ran it for them and took over the tenancy. Also one near Abergavenny.

What has happened to them places by today are they still commercial units?

Last time I went there they were testing a new idea which was all the go called Set Stocking .the cows were milking better than those on paddocks

I think I went to a sale there when they had finished, quite a sight to see 3 generations of milking systems side by side:rolleyes:
a pipeline system in one shed to a dairy with churns, a big herringbone to a dairy with a tank in it, then one of those concrete rotary parlours which sat on water.
They had just walked out of one into the next new one perhaps every 10 or so years

Yes that's what happened, they did a piece about it regularly. That was the sort of stuff that used to make it worth buying, I only have it now for the adverts and an interest in what land is for sale, more as a hobby than for serious business these days. The news is too late and the sponsored content can't be trusted imo.

IIRC, Easton Lodge (Stamford/Peterborough area) farm manager was John Lambkin. I think it was the last one that that they had - kept it on long after they'd given all the others up.
Was there a pig unit called Sacrewell(?) run in conjunction with it?

Something tells me Tim Green and family featured a few times on Countryfile or whatever it was called back then when it was worth watching? Both FW and Countryfile are rubbish now.

Is that any experimental farms left that are independent . Trawscoed was a tragic loss to Welsh Farming

Was it really?

I see in the latest farming connect type promo thing that the average pH of Welsh soils is 5.8 so it seems that potentially farmers are maybe not helping themselves to get optimal production from any breeding advances as much as they could?
