@Muck Spreader @le bon paysan doesnt France have these rules where you need to have an agricultural qualification? There was a lad in college with me doing a NDA who’d just moved to France but came back to England to complete an NDA so that he could claim more? This was almost 15 years ago mind?

Their is no requirement to have agricultural qualifications to farm and get the subsidies. However, if you want to be classed as a young farmer (<40 yr) with all it's associated benefits which can be considerable, you do need agricultural qualifications.

Yeah this was a lad of 25ish who came back to get the qualifications as he didn’t get them when younger but his brothers did have them so they were already Farming out in France.

My highest qualification is a B at Geography A Level. Never stopped me working my sheepdogs, building electric fences or grazing stock.

The Army weren't too bothered either. Not one of my soldiers ever asked to see my qualifications...

But it all makes zero difference to me, I've never been eligible for a grant or a payment of any kind. And I've no interest in a tenancy so ?

I actually think it would be a good idea for the industry (and public perception) if livestock farmers had to pass a basic exam in animal welfare. And for Arable farmers to demonstrate an understanding of the use of pesticides and herbicides.

No different from staff in food manufacturing or fast food outlets having to have a Food Hygiene Cert.

Would you use an Accountant or Solicitor who had no qualifications other than "watched what my dad did and been OK so far"

yawn. another day, another hurdle. just a cunning wheeze to cut out paying dole. i'll just carry on me hobby without " grants ", " funding ", " subs".
wonder how it'll affect 80 year olds on tenancies lol.

they'd do well to start off getting pet and horse owners to gain qualifications , if they're looking for things to do.

We don’t need 80 year olds clinging on to tenancies

I see more and more farms being bought by city types with no clue about agriculture, but they can fill in forms very well to collect tree grants etc. They are a danger to themselves , livestock and the public.
Has to be a good move.
