Farmers without qualifications could be excluded from funding

Wow
That’s a controversial heading in FG

funding may depend on your level of qualification, as if your not qualified you won’t have the necessary business skills to carry out the action

Farmers without formal qualifications could be excluded from accessing Government funding or even tenancies over the next two or three years, a prominent peer has warned.”

Par for the course in uk Civil service , 25% of those employed in whitehall have arts degree ! how that quite translates to working in defence , exchequer, etc . My old man used to say University is just another Blair job creation scheme .
Farming is all about experience and flexibility . many farmers are multi skilled qualified or not , I have quite a few friends that work in very professional , well paid jobs , but outside their own fields they are as thick as pig sh....

I would have thought a proven track record of making money would be a better assessment ?

This is a weird one do they mean degrees in agriculture? I didn’t do a degree in agriculture (did it in something else) but I came back to the farm at 21 and did basis etc straight away whilst working and have done various business courses since then like worshipful company (now 28). If this is all true then I hope they are sensible and take those into account as personally I think they have much more value than a broad brush ag degree

I got a degree in Engineering. It was about 10% useful in industry. More product specific training would have helped, rather than having been expected to understand how proprietary systems worked by some kind of telepathy.
I wouldn't even know how to start a Fendt or get it moving but engineering knowledge mostly picked up from my old dad who left school at 15 without a qualification and built this business has got me through many a difficult time.

@Muck Spreader @le bon paysan doesnt France have these rules where you need to have an agricultural qualification? There was a lad in college with me doing a NDA who’d just moved to France but came back to England to complete an NDA so that he could claim more? This was almost 15 years ago mind?

Degrees in common Sense on off maybe too?
Is there such a degree !!! i could make a fortune if there was
Feeling smug hehee
My Brother incidentally did A Levels had loads of them, 7 years at Uni then got his Degree & Prof/Dr status whetever all that means
now moans coz of all the Tax he pays off his vast Salary yet still says he has no money.
but common sence yeessh it left when he went to Uni i think

Meanwhile i left school at 16 & kind went with the flow, yes i worked on the farm ive ended up being the tenant of but all of this was mere luck to be honest.

Anyhow back to the OP
if they want proof were able to do the job i'll happily show anyone & put it all on paper
But being qualified ie paperwork? are they serious?
30+ years of hands on doing the job id say am qualified but you never stop learning
