Yet another investment banker saying that farming has the best prospects of any career in the future. Thoughts?

My thought is that it is a good industry outside the UK, not in the UK where newts and bats and tuberculin-riddled badgers and wetlands are of far higher priority then industry, yet land and labour is very expensive.
The place to farm is probably Africa or, dare I say it, Ukraine, where land is fertile and cheap with potential for farming on a massive industrial scale using the most productive kit available.

Chem, Fert, Machinery,etc,etc

Problem is all of the above is over priced given the current returns to farmers in the UK AG industry..

Farming will ALWAYS have a future....( as people will always have to eat ) we as the farmers of our/ the generation of today just need to start working together and take control from the farm gate to the house wife's table to ensure that the industry as a whole can sustain the investment/ career prospects for the young/ future generations that is so badly needed..

Farming will always be needed not just for the food producing part but:

All the allied industries it supports

The management of the countryside

Guardians of the land for future generations.

The problem thou is that 3 out of the 4 things you ( quite rightly ) quote doesn't keep a roof above your head month in/out.....
