Farming chiefs left ‘flabbergasted’ by Eustice comments

NFU president Minette Batters said: “To say I am flabbergasted is an understatement.

“Unless the world wakes up to the many mouths Ukraine was feeding we are headed for disaster - the Arab Spring will look mild.

“We will need serious global action to ensure vulnerable, poorer countries achieve food security.”

Have they missed out the bit where the NFU say what action is needed ?
I feel some sympathy for Mr Eustice. Farmers constantly harangue him without specifically saying what action they want to see. If we don't know, why should he ?

We are heading for possibly the largest food crisis in more than a generation and Eustice is winging it.

You can only fool some of the people some of the time!

When the masses have run out of money to buy food what line are these politicians going to spew out to try to save their necks.

They will be lucky if they don’t get lynched……

So Eustice doesn't know what he's doing, nor why, nor when, nor how.

How much is he paid ?

Any farmer could do a better job with his/her eyes closed and probably asleep. He's a complete moron, strike that .. a "Useful Idiot".

Doesn't answer my question. What did the NFU - as our representatives - say he needs to do ?

I'm more concerned about the EU bunging farmers 500 billion to produce cheap food , protectionism at it's worst .

Single farm payment is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things

I just ignore everybody nowadays. NFU, DEFRA, ELMS, Farming Press, BBC, Social Media etc. It’s all rubbish. A sort of virtue signalling virtual reality getting more and more removed from everyday life. One day the whole lot will crash in on them when the lies and spin and debt can’t be stretched any further.
I agree , Boris is about to do the biggest u turn in u turn history regarding food security

He also said that he has increased environmental payments by 30% once again.
This is a lie.
While if you calculate each individual option you will arrive at a figure of about 28%. Screwed by options such as Organic Horticulture which has increased by 500%!!!
However if you are in relatively large schemes like we are it comes to just over 22%.

Now this also needs to be put into context as this is to be paid from possibly December this year and will be the first increase in these payments for ten years which are based on income foregone. This will not even keep pace with inflation.

I have already challenged @Janet Hughes Defra over this as one of the options GS6, Species Rich Grassland has not had any increase at all.

I am afraid our Minister and the Civil Servants have not the faintest clue about what is happening in the real world.
They also fail to understand that we are price takers and not price makers.

2000 pigs stuck on the farm next door. Surely this good food going to waste should be a priority to get sorted.
Told me his friend was about to have the plug pulled by the bank as feed costs hit £40k month, while pigs wait to get slaughtered. Thousands of weaners being given away free to anyone daft enough to take them.
These high grain prices could finish pigs and poultry
