We never seen to get a decent politician who understands our industry.

It's very disappointing when the current idiot has the right credentials, it actually makes his bilge more believable.

I actually thought John Gummer did a reasonable job although I wasn't particularly politically astute back then. He has certainly made some excellent comments about agriculture while being Lord Deben.

Do any of these people have a clue? Sadly those who have time to engage in politics or a public life don’t seem to have time to have gained any really knowledge in the industries they are supposed to serve except maybe for one or two exceptions who have done time on the tools. I have often sat in meetings and marvelled at some of the stuff they come out with. Mostly clueless IMO. Basic payment, when it had bedded in was about as close to smooth running efficiency as they ever got, then they threw the whole thing up in the air again. Always seems like it’s run by Student Union idealists to me. No person grounded in business would even contemplate wholesale change every 5 years. Madness.

They rely on advisers who are perpetual students or researchers from what I’ve seen. They just aren’t grounded in the real commercial world. To work well, things need to be simple for starters. Just look at the list of CS options and now SFI requirements. It’s a pissmire of epic proportions.
If they were sensible they’d continue BPS and scrap SFI. Save us all lot of grief and keep a safety net in ever more unstable times. Just when we need that more than we have ever needed it, they are phasing it out. Shambles.

I actually fear he is reading from the plan for UK ag.

The end of BPS will be the end of many UK sucklers and sheep.

Slurry restrictions will see a contraction of UK dairy and increased vertical integration.

This will 'free-up' land for trees, beavers and development.

The remaining farmers will have to buy sewage sludge as urea gets banned and AN too expensive through supply shortage or tax.

All the big businesses and corps. will win.
The general public will pay. Inversely related to their ability to pay.

I thought George Eustice was from a farming family? Why can’t we have a minister who has actually farmed or farms? A minster for health who’s a practicing or retired doctor or nurse?
How about a teacher... in ministry of education? Or is that too idealistic....just seems every department is jobs for the boys! Oh and girls too!

Decades ago that generally use to happen.Ministers were generally knowledgeable and well informed on their departments. These modern days,in it for the money, politicians are quite the opposite, taking their information from young, naive, university graduates who generally use Google for their research. They have no practical experience or knowledge of their departments, it really is quite frightening.
Do you remember the trade secretary Anne-Marie Trevelyan,MP for Berwick-upon-Tweed, and her comments about having New Zealand lamb for lunch in the Autumn as there wasn't any UK available at that time of the year ? How embarrassing was that ? This was certainly on a par with dear old George.
The climate change minister for Wales comes out with some ridiculous comments too regarding tree planting, livestock and their impact on climate change.
The quality of modern day Politicians is ,at best, very worrying. They seem oblivious and show no remorse or apologise for their ridiculous comments. As Alistair Campbell said to Teflon Tony "Don't worry it will be forgotten in a fortnight "

My MP is not half bad when it comes to farming and backing us, certainly far better than Useless. Trouble is he has probably burnt his bridges over the years to get off the back benches.

Neil Parish. He also chairs the EFRA parliamentary committee and try’s to make some noise

Depends what his orders are…..the powers that be may see him as doing EXACTLY what they see his duty as.
Exactly.
Said on here ages ago that he is just a Puppet for the real powers that be at Defra.
Goldsmith, Juniper and Carrie.

Events have overtaken them and they are sending George out with ever more ridiculous lines to try and keep their con trick of a green rewilded UK saving the planet.

Poor old George. Fast becoming the modern day UK government version of Comical Ali with his outlandish claims ;)
