Silage is going to be a month late for me this year, purely due to the weather. Hopefully it will greatly reduce milk production and keep the milk price high over Winter. The extra price, if we get any, will all go in increased concentrate use and reduced milk yield anyway I suppose.
Best way to be , no one is going to give you a living , and favours rarely go unpunished .There is no will to do so. Too many 'I'm alright Jack's' that couldn't give a stuff about anyone else.
I don’t see it myselfthe problem is the government dont like want or need farmers
covid lolIs that due to brexit or the Australian deal ?
Do we have to speak Welsh to keep getting the SFP ?Mark Drakeford jumping on this now saying that farming is a welsh cultural identity.
Might start warming to him if he’s not careful
Tbf you have more time due to infinitely better weather , it's amazing what can be done when the sun shines .I think it is cultural and yes your definition is pretty spot on. As I understand it because of French inheritance law farms have been generally smaller, this combined with a land mass 2.5-3 times greater than the U.K. has meant that, by definition, there are more farmers thus more families connected to farmers, even if they have left the campagne they are still more in touch. Also France is a country known for food the world over, they know that this is because they produce wonderful produce and are rightly proud of both the produce ( and those who produce it) and the food reputation. It is all much more local here, even the individual (I.e each shop rather than as a chain) supermarkets are able to buy local food directly from local farmers and producers. We are in Charolais country here (only just as we are not far from the limousin border) so if you go out for a steak it is proudly shown as Charolais even if it is on a 12.50€ menu de jour in the local cafe. There is time here for food, it is a serious business not just grab fuel and run!
Of course they do, they just haven't realised it yet!the problem is the government dont like want or need farmers
So you need to make them, as I said empty bellies concentrate minds.the problem is the government dont like want or need farmers
Problem with farming is food is vat free , so govt don't make any money , certainly not on income tax either , ha haOf course they do, they just haven't realised it yet!
At the moment we are .....View attachment 962200look no need to worry it's all here in black & white
It’s worked so far !View attachment 962200look no need to worry it's all here in black & white
Arguing on here won't change anything, you have to look outside. Sure we are not going to agree with everything the above organisation's stand for but they can be allies on this issue. If you are an NFU member have you contacted your group chair? What about your MP?Now then chaps and chapesses, allow me to quote excerpts from a letter in today’s Times onthe very matter of the proposed trade deal with Australia...
“If the U.K. government gives tariff free access to low standard, low welfare Australian produce then it will pave the way for low standard deals with bigger trading nations. This food could end up in schools, hospitals and care homes.
The government would be breaking its manifesto commitment to maintain our standards. This deal would undermine our farmers and export U.K.s ecological and carbon footprints.
We urge Boris Johnson to rethink.”

Not sure how to take this tbh as they all wish to control UK farming to their own agendas but it does show that there are anti free trade NGOs with strong lobbying out there
Whilst in general we do have better weather I personally don’t think that is the reason, it just helps.Tbf you have more time due to infinitely better weather , it's amazing what can be done when the sun shines .
We had a glimpse in 2018 , farming was a doddle
Pi55ed down ever since

Yes ,we certainly should be , it just reinforces that you should NEVER ! trust what a politician tells youAt the moment we are .....
It won’t run dry...poppycock , we bend over backwards to try to be a real business whilst doing all the stuff they want us to do, we are not in the wrong and they will only miss the water when the well runs dry ....
So you think input prices haven't gone up in the Eurozone ? #gullibleI told you loud and clear it was rubbish back then. Yet a minority still believe it.
As I have previously said, we are extremely fortunate that the Chinese meat situation is increasing prices at the moment. That won't last very long. Maybe two years if we are very lucky.
I wonder if Paterson and Eustace ever actually believed the crap they told us? If they did, have they any shame?
Of course input prices have gone up but so have output prices. What's your point apart from trying to be a smart aleck with your "#gullible" nonsense? So you think input prices haven't gone up in the Eurozone ? #gullible
