Farming going down with hardly a whimper...

Can't comment on his assessment of the politics of it all ( not really interested tbh), but just on a practical point, he says that BPS is going but doesn't mention its replacement with ELMS.
Whether that is because he doesn't know about ELMS, or mentioning it would get in the way of his narrative, who knows (or cares ? ) .
Elms does not replace bps.
If you think it will then your in for a shock.

Yes aware of that, my only point was he said bps finishing without saying that elms was starting. I only watched it because I thought it was going to be about farming but it was just a brexit rant, should have been in the politics section.

But elms starting has nothing to do with bps going.
Now I have bps and countryside stewardship.
Elms will replace CS.
Nothing will replace bps

Best get into DD (y) .
Outcrop land rarely will DD.
Most years need to plough and leave all winter for weather to break it down for spring.
Or if lucky 2 passes with heavy discs to make a bit of seed bed depth.
Had a few demos with direct drills and won't get into the heavy land.

This is the land type subsidy were made for.
To get food off low yield land that would not be viable other wise.
Growing population and the want to cut back production...

Public support.........Image is everything.
As a business sector, we do not give anyone the 'appearance' of needing any help. Take the insanity of farmers attending protest events, driving machinery and vehicles valued well beyond anything most people can afford. We live and work [mostly] privately in the countryside, have nice houses with plenty of outside space, we can choose our our working day routines, we are seen working out in the fields on lovely summer days, and because of our surroundings, we are also capable of greater self sufficiency, and this is just a snap shot of our visible benefits. I have no doubt that some of us are very unhappy with life, and would genuinely benefit from some help, but most seem to be managing quite well. We are not being made redundant in large numbers due to business closures, or regular customers of the Dep't of Work and Pensions. We can welcome all public support when offered, but I'd say it is a mistake to go shouting for it.

ELMS isn't farming.

ELMS is environmental land management which will eventually be dropped.

Will not be dropped if you watched countryfile this morning. I think the NFU need to pay Adam a fortune to keep his mouth shut as neither of them are promoting the farming industry. The article on elms started by Adam admitting how useless a farmer he really is and then off for advice from an outfit that has 100 acres and classify themselves as a non profit organisation. You could not make it up.
Would be helpful if someone could post on here the countryfile clip in question as I know a lot of people including me have given up watching countryfile even though it really is damaging the farming industry.

Public support should be restricted to smaller family farms & especially new entrants, what chance have youngsters got when competing with large estates subsidy wise.
There should be a top limit of £25k land wise, anything above that should be enviro led.

Given most people don't vote Green.

WHY are you advocating money being spent on a minority ?

I find environmentalists totally untrustworthy and massive incompetant hypocrites.

Case in point recycled plastic being dumped in the 100,000s of tonnes into the sea. At least when it was put in a hole it was polluting the world. FFS ANYBODY can do better than what the Environmentalists have done even if you weren't trying.

Not sure how advocating making smaller family farms often with young families a priority is money going to a minority, seems to me most of the money at the moment goes to larger estates with minimal families involved. Difficult to get public sympathy when often hundreds of thousands or more goes to very rich individuals. If we want more young farmers in agriculture we have to have a financial help system geared to smaller farms where they can at least make a start.
