Farming in France

Will young farmer status be available to young third worlders?

"Etre de nationalité française, ou ressortissant d'un autre Etat membre de l'Union Européenne, ou ressortissant de pays non membre de l'Union Européenne en justifiant d'un titre de séjour les autorisant à travailler sur le territoire français".

so if you can get a carte sejour to work here and they continue to recognise foreign diplomas you can apply.

I found last year that most departments didn't seem to know what was going to happen for sure so the default seemed to be 'no you will not be able to claim because it is a european subsidy for europeans only' but this has so far proved to be wrong. I am not sure how incomers from next January will fair as they will not be subject to the W.A. terms. As for @will l article, I read one the other day saying how as farmers we were working at least 57 hours a week so hardly fair for that poor bloke!

This is the guidance notes from the government website

I was told by the chambre a while ago it was EU citizens only but the notes seem to differ.

It is equivalance of british diplomas that could cause all sorts of problems in existing GAECs

Yes, the contractors/ Cuma here have big kit. I try and do it all myself as the previous Frenchman did. Bought a JD935 combine with mate up the road. Can't get contractor to come on time, he was 3 weeks late one year, for my 6 Hc. Bought an Aitchison DD with 4 others. Got all my own baling, wrapping, grassland kit. Muckspreader, Bobcat, 2 tractors Etc. All old kit though, except Aitchison. If I can't do it myself, I change it so I can, exception being Vets.
Lucky to have the cattle market, I wish it was near me. One thing I miss from the Uk is going to market.

Do you go to Les Herolls now then Roger?

Swings and roundabouts. But on the whole it suits us fine. We sell to two groups and their buyers typically come on farm once a month to select animals they are looking for to fill the contracts they have, so the price per Kg can vary between them a bit. Once the animals are selected and a price agreed they will give you a pickup date with maybe a couple of days or weeks.

My main gripe with GLBV (it’s maybe different with broutards?), so the rep came about 10 days ago, booked a dozen fat animals and said they should leave “within 3 weeks”. What will happen, one evening, this week or next, we will get a call into the evening (could be about 8 pm) and the driver will be saying “I’ll be there at 5.30 In the morning for the dozen animals”.
It’s a pain and we’ve had a dozen discussions with them about it, but they can’t do any different. Sometimes we might not be able to separate the ones he picked and the 12 might be in a group of 30 and that’s great fun splitting them up by torch light😬

My thoughts are that I get 200ac of what looks pretty easy land, and a house (and I know what to expect) for selling say 40ac of land here. So if I get £50/ac subs and no rent to pay then thats job done really. I was after 100ac of light land in France to retire to and grow sunflowers, flax and beet. If there is a boulangerie / pattiserie to hand, and some old chaps to play boules with then I fail to see the catch?

My word, it interesting looking back to the beginning of this thread. This was exactly what I came to do...

Where did it all go wrong ?🤷‍♂️🥴

Just say no. I get the buyer to write it down on the ticket when he comes

"I won't load if they ring after 4pm. They speak to me and no one else or I won't load. They leave a message any where any how I won't load. "

I sent a lorry away empty once on Boxing day and once told another driver I was busy and would load when I was ready and made him wait two hours.

They have a list of people who they know won't complain when rung late so are basically using you to deal with their problems.

Tell them if they don't like it don't book them you will deal with someone else.

Everything I have sent in the last six months has left on a Monday morning and they have rung Friday afternoon before 4pm.

Never have a problem now.

To be fair we do load a good bit on Mondays so at least have the weekends.
Being too nice has always been my problem.
As steel fabricators in Leicester buying from stockholders in the west mids, they soon learned we would unload at lunchtime and for years we had bloody steel lorries turn up during lunch break
