Supplies of farmland marketed in England has hit its highest level in 10 years as the past three months see an exceptional amount come onto the market.

According to Strutt & Parker’s Farmland Database, 50,000 acres arrived on the market in July, August and September, bringing the total amount launched for sale in 2018 to 96,600 acres.

Michael Fiddes, head of estates and farm agency for Strutt & Parker, said, “We’ve gone from very tight supplies earlier in the year to a position where we’ve seen more land put on the open market than at any point in a decade.

“A significant chunk of the land which came forward in quarter three is accounted for by sales by a handful of larger landowners – seven farms marketed in quarter three account for 28,000 acres alone. Click here to read the full article on The Business Barn >>>

Could it be anything to do with Brexit eh?
Looks like the present generation of retiring farmers are cashing the chips.
Expect to see more Mercs and Porsches in the retirement areas of our market towns.
Good luck to the all.

Very dangerous time to buy

Seen it before
The signs say price should fall but every one says land never falls
That is right in the very lng term since 1948 when farming continued to get support

But ask some one who paid 2000 an acre in 1984 and had to sell in 1991 when it was sellers only at 1000
Or any one who paid top price in 1922

Land is a long term cycle so if you buy plan for 20 or more years and if farmers are out of the market because of no support and crop price 2/3 of today’s prices or base rate at 5%
You can Never say never
