farmplus wooden farm buildings

Has anybody got any wood frame buildings such as the farmplus that have been up for a number of years? Considering some dairy housing but was a bit worried about how they will look in a few years time compared with a steel structure? There not exactly a cheap option either, but I do think they have some merit in terms of comfort

Yes I've seen many

@Old Tip has some and bought again.

I have a friend who's barn is 1300ft ASL and it must be 10 years old now and looks great.

I was in a 250 cow dairy two weeks ago in a multi span cow kennel and portal frame complex by Farmplus

They are warm in Winter and many prefer the aesthetics

Local 20 year old 300cow farmplus shed has been roofed over with a portal frame, enough said!

i had quote for a replacement hay barn 2 years ago 45ft x20 ft the post they quoted were 8"x6" but on investigation it was 3 bits of 8"x2 nailed together, this put me of and there was no price benefit at all over steel

All their sheds have been made this way for years,it has a place, mainly glorified garden sheds.

I cant believe they are so expensive, they must surely struggle to get jobs against a steel structure. I like the look of them and I can see the cow comfort aspect but they would have to last and more importantly be competitive

I think they had there place in the 70s and perhaps a good saving on a concrete frame building but given the flexibility of a steel frame building regarding height ,span and load capacity steel is the way to go

There's a few down here. They look cosy in a pastoral sort of way. But give me decent galvanised steel anytime. The steel building boys have them down to the ground now cost wise - it's so very competitive. I reckon a decent shed is a bargain.

I've posted before regarding my early 60s Wareings steel framed building,it's been moved once and the steelwork looks like it will easily do another 50odd years, there simply is no comparison regarding a softwood kennel building.

My 1971 cow kennel got woodworm and rotted off at ground level, never again.(n)

I like the wood kennels plus and minuses for both wood and steel though. have a kennel building here at present and it's done 36 years. Waiting of prices at present for both wood and steel cubicle buildings looking forward to seeing what the difference will be.

Why are they more comfortable?

With a steel framed shed you've got one nice open clear portal, designed right when you walk inside they feel fresh, with timber they're always low, posts everywhere and always seem stuffy when you walk inside

think long and hard about using wood as the treatment is nothing like it was with the removal of the CCA treatment , have a read at the fencing threads where posts have rotted of in 5 years , yes the timber will be better and maybe a class 4 but that is a desired life of 15 years and not guaranteed and in the grand scheme of things is not long

I think the opposite, the timber is poor soft fast grown shite.

Going by todays quality of timber or lack of quality id be very sceptical about putting up a wood shed today, infact i wouldn't, next door put one up and cost more than a steel frame.

I have two, main reason is they are easier to get planning on in our area as fit in, the kit form means I can build it myself with no need for heavy lifting kit and they are very adaptable

got two timber frame barns here, one about 10 years old with larch posts which are as hard as nails and no signs of any rot, even below ground level. The other is over 60 years old and still got a good few years left in it yet.
