So I have no experience with Fastracs whatsoever but I stumbled across an advert for a tidy looking on of these for sale at a dealer not far from me. J plate 7500 hours and it got me thinking I might want it. What appeals I guess is how everything looks basic,( I like levers I have old Renaults). To use solely for trailer road work nothing too strenuous would it turn into a money pit quickly or being so basic relative to newer models not too bad? Are parts still readily available? What to watch out for and what’s the hydraulic capacity like for tipping trailers? Looking at possibly investing in a hook lift trailer. Any advice gratefully received

parts are hard to come by for some things like transmission I think. Not the nicest of things to work on either. @bkg has experience of this.

Synchromesh on fifth gear check this out jumps out of gear or you can’t selected it, universal joints on prop shaft , Oil seals on front and back axle,
Make sure the diff lock is working , can be blanked off because they blow the seals in the diff in back axle and puts all the hydraulic oil into the back axle
Check to see if it’s an 80 kph one or 65 kph
I use to run them but moved them on when they go to 3500 hours or you had to keep the cheque book open.

Hydraulic capacity better than a std tractor for tipping and also with an extra tank you can upgrade the capacity .if your handy with the spanner’s might not be the worst thing,as you say mainly basic stuff and lots of spurious parts available -look at arms plant website to get an idea of prices and vicary plant spares too and e bay .a whole lot cheaper than JD and the like and won’t be beaten for road work.i like the old ones with two gearsticks as you can change range on the go.hell i think i might go buy it😂
