Fastrack 4220

Just thought I would update. Spoke to local AD guys who run 4 4220 s which are literally a year old next week. All have clocked 1950 hrs plus.
All 4 have had a gasket on side of engine fail, 3 have had rear diffs fail and 3 have had hubs fail . They love the comfort and speed/ safety but find them underpowered loaded.
Description was, they are ok, sort of !!
Be intresting how they cope with a second busy year.
The gasket on the side of the engine will be one for the water between the two heads most of our Massey's with the sisu engine have had them. Massey's are a 20min job to fix but I've heard the fastracs have a lot of stuff in the way and take a lot longer

Does anyone know how much weight that one have on the rear axle when the plough is raised? Either it’s a lot, or the pressure is very low. Not sure it’s within manufactures spec to run 40, 50 or faster on the road?

I like the idea of this tractor as we have a lot of roadwork, but the rear wheels is the same size as my equal powered tractors have on the front, and we use heavy mounted implements. I like my 650/85r38’s as they take 10 ton axle load at 1,1 bar at 40 kph.

6 furrows must be on the limit, any real sidehill and they will have to be at near rated pressure. Our 42 runs at 30psi, and with 17ton in the trailer they look flat. Nowhere near the carrying capacity of 650x 38's. Can run lower profile 540/65/34 of course, That's what the mb1500 is on but even ballasted front and rear to match the 42 it struggles in the field compared to 150hp conventional tractor.

McLeans had one for sale that had 40k+ of warranty spend on it, those 4220’s are the middle of nowhere at the moment, those that have bought them are going to walk into the knocking box when they need to out them. JCB are only being reactive to issues, I wouldn’t touch them.

I thought second hand values were good. Looking at used ones for sale. Doesn't mean they're shifting though.

There are a lot for sale,. I had high hopes of this product but they seem to be almost finishing its rep before it even gets going, if you have front diffs blowing up, then recall the lot don’t wait for a bang, I have no faith with that mindset.

Can you use duals on these tractors?
Mine can’t turn the front wheels on hard ground with duals and the front packer raised, untill we lift the drill.
If these are the same, they will have a hard time with duals and heavy implements.

Got to admit, reading this thread glad i didn't buy one. Not sure what local dealer would be like should problems arise either.

I thought they did do front diffs as recall though.

I’m sure I read somewhere they can be dualled but don’t quote me on it.

Front diffs and a few other bits have all been done on recalls too, service and reliability (hour for hour) is well above the green machines we run. Not perfect but nothing is.

As we’re doing more landwork with one of ours bow we’ve just got a setnof 710s to swap when we need too.

How many do you have now?

I am glad someone finally got to the point: they are unreliable as sin and basically always have been. Not convinced the handlers are much better. JCB trade on their name.
