got 28 24-28 month old FRH, HOLx, SWRX Steers to sell. What do people think keep a while longer and fatten( got loads of maize and wheat) or send them down to sedge moor / frome store ring and cash them in?

Ours tend to sell well always seem to be more fleshy than others. At a guess they weigh 7-750kgs+. Haven't got any weigh cells:( . They are all home breed so won't need to buy any back in.

We were thinking if they all make over 1000 we would be better of. Trouble is you can only sell them once. But the with the beef price rising by the day it might send a few round the store ring a bit mad for a bit if flesh;)

At 700 kilos they should come back about £1085 on the hook..

( the one in the pic will be 650/680 kilos at most )

Store trade is mental currently ( easily £100/ head up on three weeks ago )

How much money are people buying stores at the moment hoping to make out of them? Once you get feed commission bedding transport i cant see anything in it

The big fhinshers will be hoping to make £10/ head and the small fhinshers that haven't a clue about their true costing's will be losing £100 + head.. trouble is they go to market buying stores and lose the plot!!

Many expensive store cattle are being bought by small farmers that have a pension etc so don't have to make it pay and don't want to invest in/ grow their business..

I wouldnt buy a big older store beast for the very reason it has probably been put in the store ring because somebody has given up throwing money at it trying to get it fat.

Why else do they end up as older heavier stores?

Chap near me ( not under TB2 ) has been selling his cattle deadweight, decided to try a few fit ones thru the store ring ( all cont x suckled steers ), took some both ways for three weeks. all indentical/ same weight cattle, the stores ones averaged £150 more per head than the dead weight ones..
