Feasibility Report

I have recently written a blog about the importance of a feasibility report when thinking about going down the road of diversifying.

I would love to know if people who have diversified and didn't have a feasibility done, what did you do to find prepare for your project. People thinking of diversifying what put your off having a feasibility report carried out?
Never done a feasibility report except where one had to be furnished to get grant money and that was done in reverse the answer that they wanted/ needed to give out the money supported by figures I worked out.i have always gone by gut feeling and good margins on almost back of fag packet calculations by doing a lot of work on a feasibility study for something that you are certain will work gives first mover advantage to another business
If you are sure go for it

having read a few feasibility reports i think its important to look at what qualifies the person writing it to be an expert in that field. most diversification projects are either stumped by something completely unforeseeable or alternatively by risks that have been highlighted but the entrepreneur is so confident they go ahead with the project anyway.

i did my Nuffield study on diversification and overcoming obstacles in developing new businesses on farms, i have also done a fair bit of consultations to farms and produced feasibility studies for various projects. most clients want to to just confirm there existing opinions and don't overly welcome contrary views!

Well I wouldnt expect a consultant to advise anything less than a report was necessary

What put me off was the cost, and that it's not a crystal ball, the only thing that will show whether or not a diversification will work IMO is to try it small scale, and it if works scale it up, if it doesn't bin it. The proof of the pudding being in the eating.
