Feed barley price

Happy to trade farm to farm with those I know.
What would you be after for your barley currently? Ex farm. I think I’m probably a Arctic load short on what I’ve contracted before harvest. I’m in Cornwall also. But I’d be more than happy to pay in full before grain leaves farm. I understand the reservations of trading with those you don’t know.

Been trying to determine what prices are available this afternoon. Have voicemail messages left with some of my merchants, guess they might call tomorrow. 🤦
Make me an offer I can’t refuse 🤣 probably best off line. Still a long way to mid July 😉

Okay. I know what I’d like to pay you. And unfortunately I know that figure won’t buy it probably. See how you get on tomorrow if you like. I’ve the usual ones getting back to me supposedly tomorrow if they can find some. I’ll pm you in the afternoon/evening if that’s okay. Unless you have any luck getting offers before that. Thanks.

sounds like that is being caught between a rock and a hard place 🤣🤣
I do wonder what I’m doing chucking barley into my intensive cattle every day, the mill and mixer never seems to stop.

In sterling I think that is £185 ton barley & 420 a ton sheep nuts.

Those NZ sheep nuts are flipping expensive no wonder NZ farmers like to graze grass.

Are you still in a drought JD Kid, it was the most scary in my lifetime until yesterday.
yea still dry and other areas are drying out as well so hard to find grazing along with supplies of hay silage etc etc
have a few local meetings. farmers. taking there feed budgets along to see what govt will do some times even just saying it's a drought area help by changing tax payments or able to get family support for kids at school etc etc can also help with bank with repayments might go interest only for so many years. etc

but hey silver lining makes yer look at what happens were yer money is realy driven from how diffrent feed could be used in normal years to life outputs or make better use of rough grasses.
cull out poorer stock that just make up numbers or ones that have higher animal health probs
a good punch in the face makes yer wake up to how useless we do things in better years cos it's easy

mate owned a bike shop his worst years he sold heaps of bikes his best years he sold bugger all but was more in control worked clever and accounted for all costs
supplementary-feed-guide.pdf
some intresting prices there. might be a bit off but not miles away keep in mind prices in kiwi dollars and cents

Just been told the price and my chin hit the floor.Whats others paying ,as yards could be empty by weekend and sold as stores.Fat price needs to be even damn higher.
Here i go again 🙄, the fat price for cattle NEEDS TO BE even damn higher, sheep prices are now 🤷‍♂️..... accepted as.. what £7dw?,if they can pay that for an animal that after processing (£££££) yields 25kg of saleable meat, then i see no reason why they can't pay A MINIMUM of £5kg for beef, i grow grain for sale as well as for finishing my own cattle and neither enterprise leaves me much return at present costs, it's high time food was valued at its True cost!!!

Not enough fat cattle sold live to get the fire properly lit under fat cattle.

That's about right, if you want it closer to harvest price you'd have to buy it earlier and store it.
No need to do that. Ring a merchant regularly and ask for forward prices. When it looks sensible book some for the months you want. No storage, no money up front. I buy in all my feed and do it like this. My barley has for the last three years has averaged out at £138, £142 and this year £140. All contracted on paper, payment 20th of month after delivery. This yoyoing up and down £50/tonne is no good to anyone
