Here i go again 🙄, the fat price for cattle NEEDS TO BE even damn higher, sheep prices are now 🤷‍♂️..... accepted as.. what £7dw?,if they can pay that for an animal that after processing (£££££) yields 25kg of saleable meat, then i see no reason why they can't pay A MINIMUM of £5kg for beef, i grow grain for sale as well as for finishing my own cattle and neither enterprise leaves me much return at present costs, it's high time food was valued at its True cost!!!
Its the fault of the chicken farmers who supply Mr Tesco et al with white meat for less per kg than its costs for a bag of beach sand

Or maybe the fault of performance recording in the pig and poultry industries, which has made massive strides in feed conversion efficiency?

It depends on whether or not the grain has been dressed. I don't want to buy another farmer's chaff, lights, twigs, rat droppings etc at full feed prices.

I sell my rat droppings barley to a lorry driving merchant that sells it direct to other farmers. He delivers the exact same stuff that I load out of the store, taken directly from my store to theirs, but charges for the haulage and, obviously, his margin.

It works very well for everyone, but it’s another margin coming out of it that a direct buyer would avoid.

Or perhaps more than £1.40 per kg dead for pigs?
