Feed fence ideas please

I'm just in the process off finishing a small extension to the main cow shed for a crush area. I also want to use the area to feed cows when the crush is not being used.

I will be feeding silage outside but I'm looking ideas on how to keep the silage dry and also stop the wind. I can't use bunkers and lids because my diet feeder won't feed into them and I can't bring silage round with the telehandler bucket and tip it in because the lanes too narrow. Has anyone seen any ways around this?

It's about 15 feet wide which wouldn't be wide enough to turn telehandler round and tip into troughs with the bucket
Then build a feed wall and rail about 3ft in from the columns, forget about a front wall to create a trough and simply set the blocks in and push around 90degrees. Then have a vertical curtain which would come down the face of the shed to stop wind and rain. Feeder wagon could also be used with this setup

I was thinking I could step the feed barrier back in 2 feet, let the silage out along the lane and push it in under the tin with a wheel pusher. Anyone doing that?

Yea something like that I was thinking.

why can't it be widened to give better access? would be a lot simpler. Presumably the 3 bay extension will not be main feed area, just a top-up? Keep it simple, just feed a small amount there and push up with telehandler. You will soon learn an easy way to push up without being square on.

There is a small paddock higher than the lane that has the septic tank etc for the dwelling house. I really don't want to start to move it. Yea it's just an extra feed area and loafing area.

I’m facing a similar dilemma with a small group of dry cows I’d like to feed down a barrier, but the feed fence would be north facing. Only 20ft between feed face and another parallel building so can’t get square on with TM320 to tip into a covered bunker.

Looked at various options but cheapest (in terms of avoiding lots of building work) seems to be buying a S/H auger/mixer bucket to fill trough with handler. But folks on here don’t seem to rate auger buckets

Have also seen on another farm where they had a thick curtain, like what you get on a curtain sided wagon, hanging down over feed fence and cows just seemed to nose happily at it whilst eating their TMR. Not sure how they get on in terms of pushing feed up though, and pretty sure my cows would have a good go at eating something like that :X3:
